Installing your Microtek Bio-5050 Scanner

Unpack Contents
Unpack your scanner package and
check for major components.
1. Bio-5050 Plus scanner
2. Hi-Speed USB cable
3. Power adapter
4. Power cord
5. Vinyl Strips
6. Software DVD
7. Leak-Free Glass Holder (2 pcs)

Install Software
IMPORTANT: Do not remove the yellow sticker from
your scanner until you are told to do so. You must
install software before connecting your scanner.
Always close any open programs, and turn off Anti-
virus utilities before installing software.
A. Place the Microtek Software DVD into a DVD-ROM drive, and follow the on-screen instructions
to install the driver and software.
NOTE: If the Microtek Software Installer screen does not come up automatically, double-click the following
in succession: "My Computer"; the DVD-ROM icon; then cdsetup.exe to start the installer program.
B. Click EXIT on the Microtek Software Installer screen when all the software has been installed.
C. Restart your computer.

  • Page 3 Position Electrophoresis Gels/Films or Transparencies To scan the electrophoresis gels/films (such as 1D/2D gels, SDS-PAGE, western/northern/southern blots, or membranes) and transparent films, please use the Leak-Free Glass Holder together. 1. Take the Leak-Free Glass Holder out from the box, and turn the side of the holder with a sticker facing up.

    7. Adjust image quality if necessary, using the Advanced Image Correction (AIC) tools. 8. Click the Scan to button in the Preview window to start scanning. For more details on other scanning scenarios applicable to your scanner, please refer to the Bio-5050 User’s Manual in the Microtek Software DVD.
  • Page 5 Problems? The orange and green LEDs on the front of the scanner indicate the status of the scanner. On power up, you should see the following: All Off – Scanner is off Flashing Orange – Warming up All On – Ready to scan LEDs First, make sure that you have followed installation steps 1 through 4 in this guide.
  • Page 6 After you finish the installation of software, if you found that the installed drivers and software cannot run your product or your computer system properly later, please go to the Microtek Download Service site at microtek.com/en/download to download and install any updates you may require.
