Fault 49: Fault Latch – Phase Overcurrent

Fault Description
This fault is reported when the starter/generator (S/G) controller senses excessive current draw (greater than
240 amps) through the motor/generator or the controller itself.
Circuit Description
The starter/generator is a 48 V, air cooled, brushless, permanent magnet device. The starter/generator has
its own controller.
Recommended Service Actions
Step 1: Verify that the fault repeats.

Clear the system faults from the InfoCenter. Refer to

Operate the machine.
Pass
The fault did not repeat. Go to

If the fault does not repeat, an isolated event has occurred.
Fail
The fault repeated. Go to Step 2.
Step 2: Test the S/G for proper function.
The InfoCenter will display the generator voltage whenever the engine is running.

Start the machine.
2.
Using the InfoCenter, check the 48 V system voltage.
Pass
The system displayed generator voltage between 32 V and 67.5 V. Go to Step 5.
Fail
The system voltage was lower than 32 V or higher than 67.5 V. Replace the Starter/Generator
following the procedure in Chapter 6 of the Greensmaster TriFlex 3320/3420 Service Manual.
Step 3: Inspect the internal S/G connections between the generator
and the controller.
These connections require a visual inspection.
1.
Remove the generator from the machine. Refer to Generator Assembly Service in Chapter 6 of the
Greensmaster TriFlex 3320/3420 Service Manual and follow the generator assembly removal procedure.
2.
Disassemble the generator to access the 3 internal S/G connections between the generator and the
controller. Refer to Chapter 6 of the Greensmaster TriFlex 3320/3420 Service Manual and follow the
generator disassembly procedure to access the electrical connections on top of the generator assembly.
Visually inspect the connections and wiring for damage and/or corrosion.
