STERIS does not intend, recommend or represent in any way that the Reliance 1227 Cart and Utensil Washer/Disinfector be used for the terminal disinfection or sterilization of any regulated medical device. These washer/disinfectors are intended only to perform an initial step in the processing of soiled, reusable medical devices.

    Maintenance Manual if preventive maintenance is done by the Customer. Repairs and adjustments to this equipment must be made only by STERIS or STERIS- trained service personnel. Repairs and adjustments performed by unqualified personnel or installation of unauthorized parts could cause personal injury, result in improper equipment performance, void the warranty or result in costly damage.
  • Page 10 1 — Safety Precautions WARNING PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD A pinch point is created between cable and pulleys. Keep fingers away from pulleys to prevent injuries. Always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves and faceshield, when cleaning or removing debris from bottom of chamber and from debris screen.
  • Page 11 1 — Safety Precautions WARNING ELECTRIC SHOCK AND/OR BURN HAZARD Fasteners and star washers are used to ensure protective bonding continuity. Always reinstall any star washer which may have been removed during installation or servicing. WARNING CHEMICAL BURN AND/OR EYE INJURY HAZARD Always use non-foaming chemical for effective cleaning and proper pump and water level sensor operation.
  • Page 12 1 — Safety Precautions WARNING BURN HAZARD Allow washer/disinfector to cool down before performing any service on pump, mechanical components or piping. Surfaces become very hot during washer/disinfector operation. In an emergency, first stop cycle by pressing Emergency Stop pushbutton. Wait until water flow stops before opening door.

Detergents with a high-chloride content must not be used, as such detergents may harm stainless steel. Wipe all plastic surfaces or painted surfaces with 70% isopropyl alcohol cleaner (such as glass or countertop cleaners).

Two tempered windows allow the operator to view the chamber interior while a cycle is in progress. The doors are equipped with watertight seals and a door interlock safety control. Chamber —...

The debris screen prevents fine debris from entering the piping system and pump. The screen is provided with a handle and is easily removed for cleaning.

Electrical box contains the central processor Unit (CPU) and controls washer/disinfector operation. Chemical Injection System Two chemical injection pumps are included with a standard washer/disinfector. The chemical injection pump assembly is installed remotely on the wall, near the chemical containers.

  • Page 26 3 — Component Identification The Reliance 1227 Cart and Utensil Washer/Disinfector is equipped with a PC-based control system that features several operating cycles for processing a wide variety of loads as well as a decontamination cycle. Additional cycles are also available for operator custom-programming.
  • Page 27 3 — Component Identification 1 Touch Screens 2 Load Side Control Panel 3 Unload Side Control Panel Operating Modes The control system offers four operation modes: Ready, Cycle, Supervisor and Service. The Ready and Cycle modes are always available. The Supervisor and Service modes are password-protected. Ready Mode The Ready mode is the default operating mode of the washer/disinfector.
  • Page 28 3 — Component Identification Standby Mode (Optional) In Ready mode, or while a cycle is in progress, a Standby/Restore button is displayed in the bottom of the screen if washer/disinfector is equipped with an optional reservoir. Pressing Standby/Restore on touch screen puts the washer/disinfector is in Standby mode. If a cycle is in progress when Standby/Restore is pressed, the washer/disinfector performs the Standby sequence and is put in Standby mode only after the cycle is completed.
  • Page 29 3 — Component Identification Service Mode The Service mode allows a qualified service technician to access the Service mode menu to configure the washer/disinfector and to perform preventive maintenance, testing and troubleshooting. The Service mode is not accessible to the operator or the supervisor. Only a qualified service technician can access the Service mode.

Slider allows to scroll across a screen to view all menus and/or possible selections available. CART: Press Cart on touch screen to select the preprogrammed CART cycle. Used to process surgical case carts.

CLOSE: Press Close on touch screen to exit a screen and return to previous screen. When Enter is not present on touch screen, press Close to save a selection and return to previous screen.

    3 — Component Identification Touch Pads — Data Entry and Access BACKSPACE: Used on Keyboard and Numeric Keyboard screens. Press Backspace on touch screen to move one position backwards and delete the preceding space or character. ALT: Used on Keyboard screen. Press Alt on touch screen to set all alternate characters on Keyboard screen.
  • Page 33 3 — Component Identification 1 Lock/Unlock Key Selector Emergency Stop Pushbuttons Emergency Stop pushbuttons are located under load and unload side controls. In case of an emergency, press either Emergency Stop pushbutton. Washer/disinfector operation instantly stops, both doors unlock and an alarm is triggered. Doors can then be opened manually to access washer/disinfector chamber. IMPORTANT: Use the Emergency Stop pushbuttons for emergency situations only.

    4 — Operating Instructions Surgical case carts are designed for storage of instruments and supplies for surgical procedures. Washer/disinfector can process up to two surgical case carts per CART cycle. IMPORTANT: Doors of surgical case cart must be locked in open position before cart is processed in the washer/disinfector. IMPORTANT: When loading surgical case carts, always position open side of carts facing opposite control panel to help ensure proper draining and drying of carts.

    4 — Operating Instructions 4.10 Responding to a Warning Message Conditions that trigger a WARNING do not prevent cycles from being processed, nor impair their efficiency. They are mainly linked to the utilities (under or over-pressure) and detergent levels. When such a condition is detected by the control, an audible signal sounds and a WARNING symbol appears on the screen to warn the operator that a situation requires special attention during a cycle.
