Using the Miter Gauge

For your own safety, always
observe the following safety
precautions in addition to the safety instruc-
tions on pages 3 through 9.
The Miter Gauge 14 is used when Crosscutting,
Miter Cutting, Bevel Cutting, Com pound Miter
Cutting, or Rabbeting across the end of a nar-
row workpiece.
Never make these cuts freehand (without using
the Miter Gauge 14 or other auxiliary devices)
because the Blade 32 could bind in the cut and
cause a kickback or cause your fingers or hand
to slip into the Blade 32.
Always lock the Miter Gauge 14 securely when
in use.
Remove Rip Fence 9 from Table 13 during any
operations which utilize the Miter Gauge 14.
When cross cutting with the Blade 32 set at 90°
to the Table 13, the Miter Gauge 14 can be used
in either Miter Gauge Slot 73 on the Table 13.
When cross cutting with the Blade 32 tilted, use
the Miter Gauge Slot 73 on the right side of the
Table 13, where the Blade 32 is tilted away from
your hands and the Miter Gauge 14.
Adjusting the Miter Angle
(Fig. 83)
Loosen the Miter Gauge Lock Knob 107 on the
Miter Gauge 14 by turning it counterclockwise
and set the body of the Miter Gauge 14 so that
the Miter Gauge Pointer 75 is at the desired
angle. Then tighten the Miter Gauge Lock Knob
107 by turning it clockwise.

Crosscutting
(Fig. 1, Fig. 83, Fig. 84)
Crosscutting is cutting wood across the grain,
at 90° or square with both the edge and the flat
side of the wood. This is done with the Miter
Gauge 14 set at 90°.
Make sure the Smart Guard System 11 is in-
stalled for all "through-sawing" operations
(when the Blade 32 cuts entirely thru the thick-
ness of the workpiece). Replace the Smart
Guard System 11 IMMEDIATELY after com pletion
of dadoing or rabbeting cuts.
Have the Blade 32 extend approximately 1/8"
(3.2 mm) above the top of work piece. Addition-
al Blade 32 exposure would increase the hazard
potential.
Do not stand directly in front of the Blade 32 in
case of a THROWBACK. Stand to either side of
the Blade 32.
Keep your hands clear of the Blade 32 and out of
the path of the Blade 32.
If Blade 32 stalls or stops while cutting, TURN
POWER SWITCH 1 OFF before attempting to
free the Blade 32.
Do not reach over or behind the Blade 32 to pull
the work piece through the cut, to support long
or heavy workpieces, to remove cut-off pieces of
material, or FOR ANY OTHER REASON.
Do not pick up small pieces of cut-off material
from the Table 13. REMOVE them by pushing
them OFF the Table 13 with a long stick. Oth-
erwise they could be thrown back at you by the
rear of the Blade 32.
