Non-Through Cutting

(Fig. 1, Fig. 57, Fig. 68, Fig. 88)
Clamp the Auxiliary Facing
securely to the Rip Fence
without obstructing path of workpiece. Im-
proper clamping can lead to workpiece instabil-
ity and kickback.
Use Featherboards 99 for all "non through-saw-
ing" operations (when the Barrier Guard Assem-
bly 25 and Anti-Kickback Device 26 must be re-
moved). Featherboards 99 are used to keep the
work in contact with the Rip Fence 9 and Table
13 and to stop kickbacks.
Be sure to securely clamp the Flat Facing Board
108 using C-clamps, or the Tall Rip Fence Aux-
iliary Facing 104 using universal fence clamps,
as shown in Fig. 57 on page 41 to avoid dam-
age to the Rip Fence 9, workpiece instability and
Kickback.
Add an 8" (203 mm) high Flat Facing Board 108
or a Tall Rip Fence Auxiliary Facing 104 to the
Rip Fence 9 that runs the full length of the Rip
Fence 9 as shown in Fig. 88.
Mount Featherboards 99 to the Flat Facing
Board 108, or Tall Rip Fence Auxiliary Facing
104, and Table 13 as shown, so that the lead-
ing edges of the Featherboards 99 will support
the workpiece until the cut is complete and the
workpiece has been pushed com pletely past
the cutter (sawblade, dado head, etc.) with the
Push Stick 93, as in ripping.
Before starting the operation, switch the saw
OFF, and set the cutter below the surface of the
Table 13.

• Install Featherboards 99 so they exert pres-
sure on the work piece. Make sure they are
securely attached.
• Make sure by trial that the Featherboards 99
will stop a kick back if one should occur.
Featherboards 99 are not employed during non
through-sawing operations when using the Miter
Gauge 14.
Replace the Smart Guard System 11 as soon as
the non through-sawing operation is complete.
Rabbeting
(Fig. 87, Fig. 89, Fig. 90)
Clamp the Auxiliary Facing
securely to the Rip Fence
without obstructing path of workpiece. Im-
proper clamping can lead to workpiece instabil-
ity and kickback.
RABBETING is cutting out a section of the cor-
ner of a piece of material, across an end or along
an edge.
Making a RABBET requires cuts which do not go
all the way through the material. Therefore the
Smart Guard System 11 must be removed.
1. Remove the Barrier Guard Assembly 25 and
Anti-Kickback Device 26.
2. For RABBETING along an edge (the long way
of the workpiece):
• Attach the Tall Rip Fence Auxiliary Facing
104 (see "Making Tall Rip Fence Auxiliary
Facing" on page 45) to the Rip Fence
9 using two table saw fence clamps as
shown in Fig. 90. The Tall Rip Fence Aux-
iliary Facing 104 should be as high as the
workpiece is wide.
• Adjust the Rip Fence 9 and Blade 32 to
the required dimensions.
• Make the first cut with the board flat on
the Table 13, using the set-up shown in
Fig. 90.
• Make the second cut with the workpiece
on edge.
Follow all precautions, safety instructions,
and operation instructions for ripping or rip-
type operations, including the use of feather-
boards and the Push Stick 8, etc.
