Important safety instructions

When using your equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury, including the following:

  1. Adult setup is required.
  2. Do not place this product on unstable shelves, stands, tables or other surfaces.
  3. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product.
  4. The product is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, extension or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  5. Do not use the motion extension ringer in the following areas that may cause deformation, malfunction, or operational failure:
    • under direct sunlight;
    • areas exposed to grease or steam, such as kitchens;
    • near fire or heating devices;
    • areas subject to extreme temperature changes, such as next to air conditioners;
    • areas with IR-opaque or reflective objects that can block IR energy that are needed for detection;
    • areas where the temperature is affected by strong illuminating objects (such as halogen lights).

Battery


  • Use only the battery indicated in this manual. There may be a risk of explosion if a wrong type of battery is used for the extension ringer unit.
  • Do not dispose of the battery in a fire. Check with local waste management codes for special disposal instructions.
  • Do not open or mutilate the battery. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause burns or injury to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.
  • Exercise care in handling battery in order not to create a short circuit with conductive materials.

Extension ringer overview

Overview - Part 1

  1. Pair button
    • Press and hold to register the Extension ringer to the telephone base.
  2. Power jack
  3. LED lights
    • Red light on when there is no backup batteries installed or the backup batteries are low.
    • Green light on when powered on, or green light flashes while registering to the telephone base.
    • Blue light on while checking signal strength.
  4. Loud speaker
  5. Visual ringer indicator (white LED)
    • Flashes when receiving an incoming call or when a reminder alarm set with your telephone system goes off.

Overview - Part 2

  1. Ringer volume
    • Slide the switch to adjust the ringer volume.
  2. Alert modes
    • The Extension ringer's LED flashes and/ or the ringer plays a melody when:
      • There is an incoming call; or
      • A reminder alarm set with your telephone system goes off; or
      • The audio doorbell (purchased separately) rings.
    • Slide the switch to change the alert mode between:
      • Flash only
        Only the LED light flashes.
      • Play melody only
        The ringer only plays a melody.
      • Flash and play melody
        The ringer plays a melody and the LED light flashes.
      • Turn off both flash and melody
        Disable the alert. The ringer does not play melody and the LED light does not flash.
  3. Melodies
    • Slide the switch to change between the three melodies.
  4. Battery compartment cover
    • Insert 3 AA alkaline batteries as power backup (optional).
  5. Wall mounting holes

Before use

Power on the extension ringer

Option 1 - Connect to the power supply

Connect to the power supply

  • Plug the small end of power adapter to the power jack on the extension ringer, and the large end to wall jack.

Option 2 - Insert AA batteries (purchased separately)

  • Match the polarity markings (+ and -) inside the battery compartment.

Add and register a extension ringer

Add your new VS014 extension ringer to your telephone base. Each new extension ringer must be registered with the telephone base before use.

Register a extension ringer:

  1. Make sure the extension ringer is powered on with batteries or DC power before registering it to the telephone base.
  2. Place your telephone base into pairing mode as per the instructions in your telephone user guide.
  3. Press and hold the pair button on the back of the extension ringer until the white Flash LED light flashes. The Extension ringer is now registering to the telephone base.

Replacing a extension ringer

If you have purchased this new VS014 accessory extension ringer to replace an old extension ringer, you must deregister the registered extension ringer first, and then register this new extension ringer to your telephone base.

Deregister a extension ringer or all extension ringers:

  • Refer to the User's manual of your telephone system to deregister a extension ringer or all extension ringers.

General product care

Taking care of your extension ringer

Your extension ringer contains sophisticated electronic and optical parts, so it must be treated with care.

Avoid rough treatment

Place the extension ringer down gently. Save the original packing materials to protect your extension ringer if you ever need to ship it.

Avoid water

Your extension ringer can be damaged if it gets wet. Do not use the extension ringer outdoors in the rain, or handle it with wet hands. Do not install the extension ringer near a sink, bathtub or shower.

Electrical storms

Electrical storms can sometimes cause power surges harmful to electronic equipment. For your own safety, take caution when using electrical appliances during storms.

Cleaning your extension ringer

Your extension ringer has a durable plastic casing that should retain its luster for many years. Clean it only with a dry non-abrasive cloth. Do not use dampened cloth or cleaning solvents of any kind.

Storage

When you are not going to use the extension ringer for some time, remove the battery from the extension ringer. Store the extension ringer in a cool and dry place.

Below are the questions most frequently asked about the extension ringer.

The extension ringer doesn't work with the telephone system equipment.
  • Make sure the unit is connected to the power supply, or with the AA alkaline batteries installed.
  • The extension ringer may be deregistered from your telephone system. Refer to Add and register a extension ringer and register the extension ringer back.
  • The extension ringer may be out of range. Move the extension ringer closer to your telephone system.
  • If the previous suggestions do not work, deregister all devices and register them to the telephone base again.
