Camera Top box containing the control PC and weight scale main unit. 2 Accessing the device The system goes to standby mode after being inactive for a certain period. The system can be wake up by touching the screen or pressing any key on keyboard. 2.1 Power up To power up the device, plug it to 100‐240V 50‐60Hz AC power. The Power connector is in the back side of the device. The PC and other devices start automatically. Make sure that the weigh scale main unit starts also. See chapter Scale issues. 2.2 Power down 1. Open the top box to access the PC. Shut down the PC by pressing the power button. The button is in the PC front panel or in some models, on the left side of the PC in the back. ...

Switch the main power off using the main switch at the back side of OCR device. 3 Login Log into the system by entering your credentials on the login form. After successful login the main view of the interface opens. If username or password do not match, an error message is shown and the login form opens again. ...

Shipment counter 7. Camera view 8. Lock ROI (Region Of Interest, the area the OCR searched for the address). Fixes the address block on OCR to defined location. 9. Laser. The OCR only looks for the address in the location where the laser points. 4.1 Customer selection If the user has access rights to multiple customers, the selected customer is shown in a green tab in the top of the screen. In case the user has access only to one customer, the tab is not shown. Before starting a session it is possible to change the customer by tapping the green customer tab. The customer can be selected by tapping the customer specific button. The user can only see the customers he/she has access to. The previously selected customer is highlighted with the orange color in the dialog. ...

Start ‐button opens the session dialog, in which a sort plan and a material type must be selected. 5.1 User profile The user profile selection moves the active sortation area on the frame to match the operator’s body type. ...

Sort plans are created and maintained in the administration tool in the web interface of Mailroom Assistant. Sort plans are listed in the view, which is opened by clicking the Sorting plan ‐button. Only sort plans, which fit to the used sorting frame are displayed in the sort plan list. There is also a fixed sort plan “Registration” which does not assist in sorting but only registers the shipments. With Registrar OCR this is typically the only option. The wanted sort plan is selected by clicking it. Then the name of the selected plan is indicated next to the Sorting plan ‐button. ...

Materials can also be searched using the search field. Material is selected by tabbing the material button or pressing the shortcut function key on the keyboard. In the session dialog it is also possible to adjust the height of the OCR unit by using the up and down buttons. ...

Then the backlight illuminates and the camera starts. When a shipment is placed on the weigh scale, also the camera view activates and the OCR starts to look for the address block on the shipment. ...
User Manual mSorter OCR Updated 2019‐03‐15 Page 14/38 1. When session is started, the Start button turns to Stop. 2. The address block the OCR finds is highlighted with green color. 3. The selected sort plan is displayed in the status stripe. 4. Selected material type is shown in the status stripe. 5.4 Getting proper matches The orientation of the shipment does not matter to the matching. The OCR can read upside down or sideways text. But sometimes, especially when there is a small font, it is good to straighten the shipment up to make it easier for the OCR. Many times, if the OCR does not match on the first time, it is good to move and straighten the shipment a bit to get a proper match. 5.5 Touch ROI If the OCR selects a wrong text block on the shipment, the Touch ROI functionality can be used. The Touch ROI tells the OCR which block it should select on the shipment. The wanted area is selected simply by tapping the screen in the middle of the address block. Sende It is also possible to drag from top left to bottom right to draw a rectangle, where the OCR looks for the address. Typically this helps the OCR when there are line feeds in the address, or the address is printed to a wide area on the shipment. However, normally it is faster and therefore recommended to just tap the address. Sende ...
User Manual mSorter OCR Updated 2019‐03‐15 Page 15/38 5.6 Lock ROI If there are several same kind of shipments then the Lock ROI can be used for always looking for the address in the same location. On the first shipment, the ROI is either found automatically or selected manually. Then the Lock ROI button can be clicked to lock the wanted area. The Lock ROI can be disabled by clicking the lock button again. 5.7 Laser guidance The Laser guidance functionality is good for shipments with lots of text on it. When laser functionality is enabled, the red laser starts to point certain area in the middle of the weigh scale desk. The OCR now looks for the address only next to the red laser dot on the desk. The laser can be switched off by clicking the laser button again. 6 Registering and sorting of shipments 6.1 Indication When the OCR founds a match, the result is shown on the address box. At the same time the correct box on the frame is indicated. ...

Also the red arrow next to the box on the frame starts to blink. 6.2 Enrichment Depending on the system configuration, the OCR result needs to be enriched if there is not enough information in the result. Enrichment can be done either manually using the button next to the result or triggered automatically by the system. ...

Mandatory fields are marked with red color and they must be filled before the dialog can be closed. 6.3 Printing The recognition and the registration with the found recipient details is confirmed by removing the shipment from the desk. When the shipment is removed, the label is printed and the shipment is registered on the server. A blue notification box appears on the top left corner to indicate the registration. The notification contains the ID, weight and the recipient of the registered shipment. ...
User Manual mSorter OCR Updated 2019‐03‐15 Page 18/38 6.4 Undo Undoing of shipment is possible within a specified time frame from the moment of registration by the user who has registered the shipment. The undo time is typically from few seconds to ten minutes. It is configurable on the server by server administrator. The undoing of registration is done using the trashcan icon in the registration notification box.
User Manual mSorter OCR Updated 2019‐03‐15 Page 19/38 correct recipient is selected by tapping it or by selecting it with corresponding function key (F1-F10). 6.7 Quick search Recipient can be searched manually by pressing § on the keyboard or tapping the quick search button: Search for the recipient is done by entering three letters from the street name and the city e.g. for 50 Main Street 03000 New York type ”Mai Str New”. To narrow the search result, simply add more letters on the names. When needed, the fuzzy search syntax can be used to found matches which are not exact. This means that there is a question mark (?) in the end of the search phrase. With manual search, a multi‐candidate list will be shown. The correct recipient is selected by tapping it or by selecting it with corresponding function key (F1‐F10). 6.7.1 Color coding Current Current addresses and recipients are indicated with green. Removed Removed addresses and recipients are indicated with red. 6.8 Shipment not registered In certain situations, the system is not able to register a shipment even though a label has already been printed. In that case the “Shipment not registered” dialog appears. There might be another label already printed for the shipment, or some other reason is preventing the registration. In both situations, the printed label should be thrown away. The dialog shows the shipment details so that the disposed label can be recognized. ...

User Manual mSorter OCR Updated 2019‐03‐15 Page 23/38 In the collecting mode the system assists in collecting the sorted shipments from the sorting frame in specified order. 1. Group to be collected 2. Boxes which belong to the active group. The large numbering shows the order to collect. 3. Collect of group mail pieces is confirmed using “Mail pieces collected” button. After a group is collected is finished, it is possible to map the collected content to a box or a tray with a barcode. See the “Sort plans” chapter in the “Track and Trace / Admin user manual” for more details. If barcode is not needed, then it is possible to continue with Proceed without barcode ‐button. This dialog is disabled if the sort plan does not require containers during the collection. Groups with no content are automatically skipped. After the last group the session is automatically ended. If shipments have been sorted, it is not possible to abort the emptying without collecting shipments from the frame. ...

If batch label printing is set automatic, batch labels are printed automatically when entering the collection mode. No match on OCR OCR could not find a recipient with the details found on the mail piece. Insufficient address data The system could not find a recipient in the address book with the details found on the mail piece. Typically this appears when for example recipient level match is required, but only street level recognition is received. The bin is empty. Nothing to collect. No mail pieces have been sorted to the selected bin. Therefor the emptying of the bin failed. No match from Video Coding The system could not find a recipient in the address book with the details entered in video coding. Fatal error has occurred. This causes also problems with registering shipments since the scales is used for acknowledging that the shipment has been removed from the desk. Open the top box door and press the red button in the scales main unit to switch the scales back on. Check that the weight is displayed on the user interface and the scales main unit is showing the weight too.
