Before using the FJ-CP1 in or near water, test for leaks as described on pages 6–7 and 12 of this manual. • Before sealing the FJ-CP1, examine the seal and any parts of the case that are in contact with the seal carefully to ensure that they are free of dirt, hair, lint, dust, sand, and other foreign objects.

Thank you for your purchase of a FJ-CP1 fi eld jacket for compatible Nikon digital cameras. The FJ-CP1 is waterproof to a depth of 3 m (9 ft. 10 in.), al- lowing pictures to be taken underwater or in mist and rain. This manual has been written to help you enjoy taking pictures using the FJ-CP1.

Check for Leaks Important! Before placing the camera in the FJ-CP1, be sure that the camera is functioning normally and that the case does not leak. Failure to check for leaks before use could result in irreparable damage to the camera. Note that leaks may result if the case is cracked or damaged.

Check for water inside the case Take the FJ-CP1 out of the water and check for water inside the case. If water has entered the case, check the seal ( 10).
Insert the Camera 1. Ready the Camera Insert the battery and memory card Before using the camera, check the battery level and number of exposures remaining. Batteries Make sure that the battery is undamaged. Failure to observe this precaution could result in fi re or in damage to the camera.
Do not open the case in areas exposed to blown sand or spray. To prevent water from entering the case, keep the FJ-CP1 upright, with the shut- ter-release button on top. Do not place the open case with the seal face down.
Replacing the Desiccant Used desiccant loses its ability to absorb moisture. We recommend replacing the desiccant each time the FJ-CP1 is used ( • Is the camera in the correct orientation? • Has the camera strap been removed? 19).

Dry the case thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use a cloth to which salt has adhered. Let the FJ-CP1 dry in the shade Leave the FJ-CP1 out to dry in a shady, well-ven- tilated area. Do Not Exposure to Sunlight or Heat Do not use a hair dryer or other heat source or place the case in direct sunlight.
Maintenance Replacing the Seal The seal is what keeps the FJ-CP1 watertight. Make sure that the seal is free of foreign matter before each use, and check the case for leaks before us- ing the camera under water. A leak may indicate that the seal is damaged, stretched, or has lost elasticity and should be replaced as described below.
Do not store the FJ-CP1 in direct sunlight or where it will be exposed to sudden changes in temperature or high levels of humidity. Do not store the FJ-CP1 under other objects, close to open fl ames, in the vicinity of fl ammable items, or with naphtha or camphor moth balls.
