5.4 System Troubleshooting

Problem
No Operation
No Audio (all receiver
channels)
No Audio (some receiver
channels)
Poor Signal (all receiver
channels)
Poor Signal (some receiver
channels)
Controller seems to operate
but cannot select all or some
installed receiver channels.

O G I E S
1. Press "Power" key on XMC100 controller.
2. Verify circuit breaker is engaged.
3. Verify aircraft bus power is 22 – 30VDC.
4. Verify receiver J1-18 is energized.
1. Tune to Channel 1. If audio is heard, then XM
subscription is not activated.
2. Use XM remote controller to increase volume
setting.
3. If "MIC KEYED" is displayed on controller, check
status of PA key or wiring to PA amplifier.
4. Poor XM signal reception. Controller shows
"WEAK" or "NO SIGNAL". Refer to Signal
Problems below.
5. Verify aircraft audio system is setup as required.
1. Tune to Channel 1. If audio is heard, then XM
subscription is not activated. Each installed
receiver must have subscription.
2. Verify audio system routing.
3. Defective receiver, contact Heads Up support.
1. Evaluate antenna feed cable length and verify
total loss applies 22dB of gain into the receiver.
Refer to Section 3.4.

Verify antenna has clear view of southern sky.
1. Evaluate antenna feed cable as described above.
2. Defective receiver, contact Heads Up support.
1. Check power to receiver(s).
2. Check control bus wiring from controller to
receiver(s).
3. Verify node address settings (ref Figure 5 above).
