MOWER BLADES
Check mower blades for wear every 25 hours of
operation. Ensure blade hardware is tightened to 50-60
ft. lbs. (68 - 81 Nm) of torque.
Sharpening Blades
IMPORTANT: Ariens recommends having your blades
professionally sharpened and balanced. If you sharpen
your blades, ensure they are balanced.
Unbalanced blades will cause excessive vibration and
damage.
To remove and install blade:
1. Block blades to prevent rotation.
2. Remove nut, flat washer and blade.
3. Replace with sharp blade.
4. Tighten hardware to 50-60 ft. lbs. (68 - 81 Nm).
To sharpen blade:
1. Remove blade as above.
2. Sharpen blade with a file or grinding wheel,
removing equal amounts of material of each end
to maintain balance.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT grind around corners at tips of
blade. If cutting edge of blade cannot be sharpened in
a straight line to within 1/8" (3 mm) of the end, replace
with Ariens recommended blade only.
3. Place bolt or pin through blade to check balance.
Blade will remain in horizontal position if
balanced.
4. Replace blade as above.
GENERAL LUBRICATION
Lubricate unit every 50 hours of operation or every
three months, whichever occurs first.
Grease front and rear axle and wheels, brake shaft and
all fittings (Figure 7). Oil pivot points on brake and
mower deck linkage.
NOTE: Hydrostatic transaxles do not have grease
fittings.
