5-Port Gigabit Switch Multicast
Item no. 98 61 63
Intended use
The Gigabit Switch is intended for cable-based networking of computers or other devices suit-
able for the purpose. 5 twisted-pair connections (RJ45) are available.
The power is supplied from the enclosed wall plug transformer.
Always observe the safety instructions and all other information included in these operating
instructions.

Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequen-
tial damage!
Nor do we assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by
improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such cases,
the warranty will be null and void.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the product is not permitted for
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The product is not a toy. Keep devices that operate on the mains voltage out of the
reach of children. Therefore, be especially careful when children are around.
Use the product where it is out of the reach of children.
• The product is only intended for use in dry, indoor locations. No part of the product
should be allowed to become damp or wet; never take hold of it if your hands are
wet!
There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
• Only operate the gigabit switch using the enclosed wall plug transformer.
• Do not pull the wall plug transformer from the mains socket by pulling on the cable.
Take hold of it on the sides of the housing and pull it out of the mains socket.
• If the wall plug transformer is damaged, do not touch it; there is danger to life from
electric shock!
First, switch off the mains voltage to the socket to which the wall plug transformer
is connected (switch off at the corresponding circuit breaker or, for example, or
remove the safety fuse) and then switch off at the corresponding RCD switch, so
the socket is fully disconnected from the mains voltage.
You can then unplug the wall plug transformer from the mains socket. Dispose of
the faulty wall plug transformer in an environment-friendly way, do not use it any
more.
Replace it with a new wall plug transformer with the same specifi cations.
• The design of the wall plug transformer complies with protection class II. Only use
a standard mains socket as the voltage source for the wall plug transformer (see
section "Technical Data").
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
drops, even from a low height.
Connection

• Connect the low-voltage socket on the gigabit switch to the corresponding round plug on the
enclosed wall plug transformer.
Version 11/11
Plug the plug-in power supply into an appropriate mains socket.
The power LED on the gigabit switch must now light up, indicating that the product is ready
for use.
• Connect the gigabit switch's RJ45 network ports to the corresponding ports on your computer
(or with other devices with network connections, e.g.,television, satellite receiver, games con-
soles etc.).
• One LED per port is used as a control LED for a correct network wiring (LED lights up) or for
data transfer (LED fl ashes).
Set-up
Ensure that the gigabit switch is stable and cannot fall over.
Protect the surface of valuable furniture by using an appropriate underlay, otherwise it may
cause scratches.
Lay all cables in such a way that nobody can trip over them.
We recommend that you label the network cables so, in the event of failures, you can fi nd the
cause quickly and easily. There are special stickers, for example, available as accessories.
Cables with different colours may also be helpful when wiring the network.
Handling
Maintenance and Cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for any
reason.
Disconnect the product from the power supply before cleaning, unplug the wall plug trans-
former from the mains socket (all network connections will cease to function).
Dust can easily be removed using a clean, soft brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as these can cause discolouration.
Do not press too strongly on the surface when cleaning, to prevent scratch marks.
The gigabit switch supplied has automatic uplink recognition for each port, which
allows for particularly simple wiring to other switches.
A cross-link cable is no longer required; you can use a conventional 1:1 connected
network cable.
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet! Use of the
wall plug transformer involves the risk of a potentially fatal electric shock!
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to
a warm one. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit. The wall plug
transformer also poses a risk for a potentially fatal electric shock!
Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to the power
supply and putting it in to use. This may take several hours.
• Any maintenance or repair work may only be performed by an authorised repair
shop.
• Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains supply!
A safe operation can no longer be assumed, if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage,
- the product does not function or does not function properly (e.g. a burning smell)
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions
- it was exposed to heavy loads during transport
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor
pinched.
• If you are not going to use the product for a while (e.g. during storage), disconnect
the wall plug transformer from the mains socket (all the network connections will
cease to function!).
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the installation location and during trans-
portation:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold or heat
- Dust or fl ammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations
