On some vessels the sonar hull units are
installed side by side.

D
The hull units must not be installed too close to each other. This is important to reduce
flow noise when both sonars are used. It is also important to allow unlimited hoisting and
lowering operations, as well as necessary access for repair and maintenance.
Note
When mounted perpendicular to the longitudinal direction on the hull, the installation
trunks must be placed minimum 1 metre apart.

Installation close to echo sounder transducer(s)

It is common for vessels to have both echo sounders and sonars on board. The respective
transducers are then installed close to each other under the hull.

For most installations we recommend that the
echo sounder transducers are placed in front
of the sonar installation trunk. When the sonar
transducer is lowered, the transducer shaft and the transducer itself cause disturbances in
the water flow. These disturbances may significantly reduce the echo sounder performance
if the echo sounder transducers are placed aft of the sonar.
