Installing the Motherboard

Proper motherboard installation involves many factors. Before installing the
motherboard into your chassis, review how much space you have to install different
components or cables to the motherboard, and whether it may be easier to do so
prior to lowering the motherboard into the chassis for the final time. Once the
motherboard is fastened to the chassis, the following steps may become more
difficult:
CPU installation -
o Consider installing your CPU prior to installing your motherboard.
As a necessary step, this will not get easier once you install your
motherboard into a chassis.
CPU cooler installation -
o Depending on the cooling assembly, a backplate or other hardware
may need to be installed prior to fastening the board.
o Some cooling assemblies are significantly harder to install after
installing the motherboard (for example, push-pin type assemblies).
o Bulky coolers can make it much more challenging to both fasten
the motherboard and install other cables/components after
installation.
DIMM module installation -
o If you have a bulky CPU cooler, you may have more limited access
to the DIMM slots.
Front panel connectors, such as USB, Power SW, Reset SW, etc. -
o Due to chassis space constraints, it is sometimes easier to connect
these to the motherboard before installation.
M.2 SSD installation -
o M.2 installation requires removing a heatsink and fastening your
SSD to the board.
Although many modern cases attempt to make these installation steps simpler for
the owner, we recommend to review your chassis installation guide first. After, we
suggest taking a moment to review the quick installation guide included with your
motherboard, and then proceed to install the motherboard and everything else.
