    System Overview As shown in Figure 1, multiple V1500CPUs may be connected to the Ethernet LAN to create a network of CCTV equipment. Personal computers (PC) using the V1500 API may be connected to the LAN to interface equipment from other vendors to the V1500 system. Discussion of the V1500 API is included in V1500 Configurator Instruction Manual XX093.

A second, common identifier is needed for all devices on the network. This identifier is known as a subnet mask, and is the same for all devices on the network.

Vicon offers five pre-configured hot standby configurations (V1500CDU-H-1, V1500CDU-H-2, V1500CDU-H- 3, V1500CDU-H-4, V1500CDU-H-5). The hot standby card cage contains a backup, or hot standby, card for each network, parallel and serial card in the card cage.

    Applying Power Warning: Do not connect any unit to a power source until installation is complete. After all connections are properly made, perform the following power application procedure. 1.     Hot Standby Configuration Warning: All hot standby cards may be replaced without powering down the card cage. Dangerous voltages present inside the card cage may cause injury, death or component damage. Proper care must be taken when replacing the hot standby cards. Hot standby modules (serial, alarm, video or titler) require two slots (the only exception is the alarm module, which requires three card slots) and therefore have a different rear panel than typical configurations, as shown in the figures below.

    V1500CDU Front Panel LEDs The front panel of the V1500CDU card cage contains thirteen columns of three LEDs. These LEDs are meant to provide a quick visual indication of the operational status of the V1500CDU cards. Which set of three LEDs corresponds to which card is determined by the physical card layout of your particular installation.

    The V1500CDU-ALRM (typical configuration) and V1500CDU-HSB-ALRM (hot standby configuration) provide two ports for connection to Vicon V1300X-IA alarm interface devices. Low level polling operations on these ports monitors alarm status and changes in status are transmitted via the Network Module to the V1500CPU.

    Note: The Netswitch-8 is not included in every V1500 system. Disregard this section if your system does not require a network switch. The Netswitch-8 is an Ethernet switch that may be purchased from Vicon. The Netswitch-8 is needed when network bandwidth becomes an issue, such as in systems that are passing video across the network. Using a switch instead of a hub in this case will improve network bandwidth utilization.

    The KVM switch is a 15-inch, rack-mounted flat panel monitor with an integrated keyboard and trackball. It is a commercially available product provided by Vicon that is used to share one console (the KVM) with up to 8 PCs. You may connect a V1500CPU, a PC loaded with Vicon’s PACPro software, and up to 6 additional PC- based products.

    Troubleshooting Before calling Vicon Technical Support at 1-800-34-VICON (1-800-348-4266), please review the following common troubleshooting issues. I have a flashing Power LED on the V1500CPU front panel and no display on my monitor. There are two power switches on the V1500CPU. With the power cable properly connected to a power source, you must turn on the switch on the rear panel of the V1500CPU and then press the momentary power switch on the front panel.

    Coaxial Cable Recommendations Caution: Careful selection of proper cable is essential to obtain the best performance from this equipment. Vicon assumes no responsibility for poor performance when cables other than those recommended, or equivalent, are installed. In all cases, coaxial cable impedance should be 75 ohms.

    Let the required picture quality and cable distance provide a guide in choosing the best cable type. For cables other than the approved Vicon types below, contact the manufacturers listed below. Note that “BC” refers to bare copper and “TC” refers to tinned copper.

    You can use the 192.168 octets even if other components on your network use 192.168, as long as the complete address is unique for each device. Changing the Vicon defaults requires a laptop computer or other terminal device to access menu systems needed to change the defaults.
