Up to 64 individual control signals may be transmitted to dimmer packs through a single microphone cable. In addition, the MIDI 616 receives DC phantom power from the dimmer packs via the same microphone cable, eliminating the need for AC power cords on NOVA Systems controllers. This makes the remote placement of the MIDI 616 easy and convenient.

Control Functions Channel Levels Light intensity for each of the 16 control channels of the MIDI 616 can be preset using the 16 slide controls. Adjustment of these controls increases or decreases light Intensities to desired levels for storage in memory display on stage.
Pushbutton Functions BLACKOUT Pressing the BLACKOUT button instructs all lights to fade out instantly, or at a predetermined fade rate. A short “tap” of the button will allow a gradual fade-out, while a “press and hold” action will cause an instant blackout.
MEMORY The four MEMORY buttons (1-4) are used for storing channel intensity levels for later recall much like a calculator's memory. MEMORY buttons can be programmed “on the fly” without affecting the lights on stage or the fade in progress. To program a MEMORY button, simply adjust the channel level slide controls to the desired settings.
MIDI port for even small control movements. CHASE The MIDI 616 is capable of storing 3 chase sequences of up to 32 steps in non-volatile memory. Any of these chase effects can be selected by tapping the CHASE button the number of times corresponding to the Chase Mode desired.
Chase can be canceled only by the use of the BLACKOUT button. When a chase is active, the BLACKOUT button must be pressed twice to achieve a full blackout. Chase Modes 1, 2, and 3 can be programmed in from 1 to 32 step sequences. Any of the 16 channels can be either on or off during each of these steps.

System Hookup Once the best location for the MIDI 616 has been determined, you can begin connecting it to the rest of your system. Through the NOVA Systems Micro-Plex design, you need only connect a single 3- conductor audio cable (standard microphone cable with XLRs) to one of the Micro-Plex output ports on the back panel of the MIDI 616.
With the GO and BACK features, and the ease of storing lighting “scenes” in memory, the MIDI 616 can adapt to a wide variety of applications. Operation of the MIDI 616 without utilizing the MIDI functions would typically be as follows: Lighting levels (or “scenes”) are set up using the channel level slide controls.
(track number) to be used for all lighting parts that is different from the channels used for musical parts. Make sure that the MIDI 616 is configured to send and receive on that channel number. It is also a good idea to record your lighting parts as separate sequences so that they pan be edited or deleted individually, without affecting anything else.
MIDI Channel Assignment To set the MIDI Transmit channel, follow this procedure: 1. Move all slide controls (sliders) to minimum. 2. Hold both the GO and BACK buttons down at the same time, while pressing the MEMORY 1 button. The MEMORY 1 LED will flash. 3.

The NOVA Systems MIDI 616 can actually control up to 64 dimmer channels if equipped with the Softpatch Option. The 16 individual control channels can be assigned to any number of dimmer channels between 1 and 64. This is called “softpatching.” The console comes the factory preset with the...
Step One - SELECT MAXIMUM DIMMERS Determine how many dimmer channels are required. The MIDI 616 can be configured to patch 16, 32, 48, or 64 dimmer channels. Most situations will only require 16 dimmer channels. Response with low wattage lamps may become sluggish if more than 32 dimmer channels are selected.
Page 36
Depressing the FLASH 1 button will instruct the MIDI 616 to display dimmer channels 1 - 16. Depressing the FLASH 2 button will instruct the MIDI 616 to display dimmer channels 17 - 32, if the maximum number of dimmers is set to 32 or more.
