Fully insert the strip of sealing caps (previously removed from the electrolyte container) into the battery filling ports. Make sure the strip of caps is fully inserted and flush with the top of the battery.
NEGATIVE (-) post and the red POSITIVE (+) cables to the POSITIVE (+) posts. Damage to the electrical system will occur if the cables are reversed. Electrical System Fuses All models of the ARGO are equipped with push-in type automotive fuses. The fuses protect the electrical circuits of the vehicle.
Electrical System Argo Service Manual ES INDEX MAIN INDEX NOTE Keep the battery charged. Never allow the battery to become drained by unnecessary use of the headlights or over cranking of the engine. If the battery is dead or the electrical charge is low, re-charge it with a 12 volt battery charger.

Orient the battery so the Positive Terminal (+) is to the installer’s right. 2. Fasten the main power cable to the positive battery terminal first and cover with the red rubber insulator boot.

Drill out and remove the three (3) rivets securing the headlight assembly to the front bucket. NOTE Exhaust side Light Bucket will require moving some exhaust duct shielding out of the way for access to head lamp assembly.

Drive Chain Lubrication The ARGO vehicle is equipped with roller chains to each axle. Lubricate the chains every 10 hours or more frequently in dirty or wet conditions with an Aerosol Chain Lube (or use ARGO brand Chain Lube (part no. 130-100).

During the new vehicle break-in period, check the idler chain adjustment before operating the vehicle and after the first 2 hours of operation.
7R Vice Grips to hold the ends of the chain together while inserting the connecting link. There may be no slack in the idler chain, making installation of the connecting link difficult without this tool. Modified Vice Grips can be ordered from your ARGO dealer (ARGO Part No. 658-08).

Grease with a small amount of a lithium based, NLGI #2 or 3 mineral oil based grease, (such as Shell Alvania #3) or ARGO Brand Multi-Purpose Grease Part No. 130- 105) Apply every 50 hours of operation, if vehicle has been used in water for extended periods of time or whenever major maintenance is performed on the vehicle.
Lubricate every 25 hours with a lithi- um based, NLGI #2 or 3 mineral oil based grease, (such as Shell Alvania #3 or ARGO Brand Multi-Purpose Grease Part No. 130- 105). Wipe off excess.
Use a pair of modified 7R Vice Grips to hold the ends of the chain together while inserting the connecting link. Some drive chains have no slack, and replacement of the connecting link is difficult without this tool. Modified Vice Grips can be ordered from ARGO, Part No. 658-08. 3. Replace the outside plate and spring clip.

Do not attempt to move the gearshift from the neutral starting position until the en- gine idles down completely. The Argo is equipped with an automatic clutch that is activated by engine speed. If the engine idle speed is too high, the transmission will grind during gear engagement.
Inspecting the condition and level of oil in the transmission must be done on a regular basis. Do not operate the ARGO if the transmission oil level on the dipstick is above or below the grooved indicator. Damage to the transmission or a reduction in vehicle performance could occur.
Inspect the transmission oil on a daily basis. CAUTION Do not run the ARGO if the oil level in the transmission shows above or below the mark on the dipstick. Damage to transmission components could occur. Checking the Transmission Oil Level...

(Later transmissions utilize a contained ball and spring in- sert threaded into the housing). Remove the spring from the transmission housing(earlier transmissions) This ball and spring provides the shift gate notches you feel when you are shifting from forward to neutral to reverse. 9. Place the transmission to the transmission holding fixture and remove all fasteners se- curing the right hand housing to the left hand side. Disassembling the Reverse Idler Shaft 1. Remove the retaining ring securing the 20 tooth idler pinion on the reverse shift shaft. 2. Slide the idler pinion off of shaft along with the thrust washer installed above it. 3. Remove the thrust washer from the shaft located behind the idler pinion. 4. Remove the retaining ring. 5. Clean all components in a varsol bath or environmentally friendly cleaning solution and lay out on a clean work bench for inspection.
