5. TIME MEASUREMENTS

11! Ordinary measurement
Time between t w o points on a w a v e can be measured from
the S W E E T TIME/DIV value and horizontal distance between
t w o points.
Procedure:
1 . Apply the signal to be measured to the INPUT jack. Set
the vertical MODE to the channel to be used. Set the A C -
GND-DC to D C , adjusting V O L T S / D I V and S W E E P
T I M E / D I V for a normal display. S e t the V A R I A B L E con-
trol to C A L position.
2.
POSITION control to set this point at the intersec-
tion of any vertical graduation line. Using the T P O S I -
TION control, set one of the points to be used as a
reference to coincide with the horizontal centerline.
3 . Measure the horizontal distance between the t w o points.
Multiply this by the setting of the S W E E P T I M E / D I V con-
trol to obtain the time between the t w o points. If horizon-
tal " x 10 M A G " is used, multiply this further by 1 / 1 0 .
Using the formula:
Time = Horizontal distance (div) x ( S W E E P T I M E / D I V set-
ting) x " x 10 M A G " v a l u e -

[EXAMPLE]
For the example, the horizontal distance between the t w o
points is 5.4 divisions.
If the S W E E P TIME/DIV is 0.2 ms/div w e calculate. (See Fig.
24)
Substituting the given value:
Time = 5.4 (div) x 0 . 2 (ms/div) = 1.08 ms

|2) Cursor measurement (CS-5130 only).
1 . In the same w a y as the ordinary measurement, adjust
the w a v e f o r m to be measured to an easy-to-observe
point.
2. Set the cursor mode to A T .
3 . Adjust the A R E F cursor to the left of the t w o point to
be measured, and the A cursor to the right.
4 . Measured value is displayed in the upper right part on
the screen posterior to A T .

6. TIME DIFFERENCE MEASUREMENTS
(1) Ordinary measurement
Time difference between t w o synchronized signals can be
measured a s follows:
Procedure:
1 . Apply the t w o signals to C H 1 and C H 2 INPUT jacks. Set-
ting the vertical MODE to either A L T or C H O P mode.
Generally for low frequency signals CHOP is chosen with
A L T used for high frequency signals.
2. Select the faster of the t w o signals a s the S O U R C E and
use the V O L T S / D I V and S W E E P T I M E / D I V to obtain an
easily observed display.
Set the V A R I A B L E control to C A L position.
3 . Using the • POSITION control set the waveforms to the
center of the C R T display and use the •< • POSITION con-
trol to set the reference signal to be coincident w i t h a
vertical graduation line.
4 . Measure the horizontal distance between the t w o sig-
nals and multiply this distance in divisions by the S W E E P
T I M E / D I V setting.
If " x 10 M A G " is being used multiply this again by 1/10.
Using the formula:
Time = Horizontal distance (div) x ( S W E E P T I M E / D I V
setting) x " x 10 M A G " v a l u e -
