Installation preparation
1. Preparation
Before starting the installation, ensure that the roof of your vehicle is suffi ciently
sturdy. Ensure that the permissible roof load of your vehicle is not exceeded when
installing the system and accessing the roof.
E
If the roof is not strong enough, or if you are in any doubt, attach a sheet-metal
panel (approx. 3 mm thick, 100 x 100 cm) to the outer skin of the roof to improve
the roof stability. Check with the vehicle manufacturer.
For installation of the system you will need a 13 mm spanner, a 27 mm spanner, a
large Phillips screwdriver, a 3 mm fl at-blade screwdriver, a drill with a 20 mm drill
bit or milling head, a cutter (e.g. carpet knife), a pair of nipper pliers, industrial
cleaner for cleaning the mounting plate and a cartridge of strongly adhesive body
sealing compound (e.g. Sikafl ex).
2. Space requirements for the external unit
Make sure that there is enough space for the system when it is folded down and for
the action radius (pivoting radius).
When selecting an installation location, ensure that no larger metal parts (e.g. pro-
tection bars, roll bars, etc.) and no components that may generate magnetic fi elds
(e.g. loudspeakers, fan motors, etc.) are in the direct vicinity of the system (radius of
approx. 75 cm) as these may affect the compass function.
Once you are sure that the roof is sturdy enough, or you have undertaken the
necessary measures for safe installation, position the external unit with mounting
plate temporarily on the designated installation position.
Use the diagram below to check that there are no obstructions within the specifi ed
area.
