HP Workstation xw4200 Product Design Highlights
Introduction:
The HP Workstation xw4200 mechanical design showcases a number of improvements over previous designs. Many of the
customer-accessible components can be removed and replaced without a tool, features have been incorporated into the product to
address noise concerns, and it incorporates additional features that enhance the customer experience. All of these improvements make
the HP xw4200 package an outstanding design.
Key Product Features:
The HP xw4200 has been designed such that many of the customer-accessible components within the product can
be accessed and replaced without the use of a tool. This "tool-less" design saves time for customers and minimizes frustration associated
with the use of special tools. The illustration below highlights some of the major "tool-less" components, including the Optical Drives,
Hard Drives, and Floppy Drive (when they are factory-integrated). After a simple one-time operation of inserting alignment screws, non-
factory-integrated drives will mount without a tool as well.
Tool-less Components
The HP xw4200 has several other features to improve usability and add value for the customer, including:
Convertible Chassis – The chassis is designed for use in either Minitower or Desktop orientation. The Optical Drives can be rotated
easily without the use of a tool.
Configuration-based "Smart Cooling" – The system senses the power load and inlet temperature, and adjusts the fan speed accordingly.
This allows the fans to run slower nominally when the system load and temperature is low, which lowers noise levels.
New CPU Heatsink – A new heatpipe design provides better cooling than previous CPU coolers. This allows the fans to run slower and
improves system acoustics.
New Fan Design – The xw4200 fans use Pulse-Width-Modulation to minimize impulsive noise. The fans also utilize a four-wire control
system, which improves their dynamic range and allows them to run slower than traditional fans. Both of these features contribute to a
quieter fan, and reduced overall noise emitted by the product.
Outstanding Security Features – The chassis supports a wide variety of available security features including
Kensington lock, padlock, universal chassis clamp lock, hood sensor, solenoid hood lock and rear port controller
cover.
Industrial Design – The xw4200 incorporates an industrial design that makes a strong visual statement conveying
powerful performance.
Conclusion:
The HP Workstation xw4200 incorporates a number of enhancements to improve the customer
experience. The main highlights include: tool-less chassis design, flexible orientation of Optical Devices, a number of
features to improve system acoustics, and a sleek industrial design. Product design is a key differentiator and now,
with the HP Workstation xw4200, it has been taken to a higher level.
