  • Page 9: Chapter 1 - Introduction

    National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70, state and local wiring codes. The KRX-3V5 is a Video Decoder used to convert network data from a digital IP source to an analog output for display on any monitor with an S-Video, mini D-sub or coaxial BNC-F input. This enables distribution directly to a monitor and eliminates the need for separate workstations with dedicated monitors.

    Unpacking and Inspection All Vicon equipment is tested and inspected before leaving the factory. It is the carrier’s responsibility to provide suitable delivery. Inspect the cartons upon delivery and, if damage is present, make detailed notes on the carrier’s bill. Then, obtain the carrier agent’s signature and file a damage claim as soon as possible.

    3. Make all connections to monitors, LAN, and power. NOTE: The KRX-3V5 maybe powered by PoE using the LAN connection or with 24 VAC. Recommended 24 VAC power supply models are the S24WPS-1 for 120VAC installations and S24PS-230 for 230 VAC installations or latest equivalents.

    Unpacking the Decoder Carefully open the carton. Remove the accessory kit and the KRX-3V5 from the box and place them on a large, flat working surface. Open the accessory kit and verify the contents against the list in Table 1-1.

    Unit Components This section describes the KRX-3V5 front and rear panels. Panel Connectors and Indicators The following picture shows the KRX-3V5 panel. Each panel component is described below. Figure 3-1: Rear Panel Layout The KRX-3V5’s rear panel contains the following components: RS-232 Port: A 5-position terminal block used for diagnostics (for service use).

    Desktop The KRX-3V5 can rest on a clean and dry flat surface, like a desk or tabletop. Four (4) rubber bumpers are provided for stable mounting. There must be an area of no less than 3 in. (76 mm) left around the exterior to provide suitable airflow for cooling.

    Step 2: Connecting the Power Supply To ensure that the KRX-3V5 is protected during a power surge or failure and that no data is lost, it should be connected to an uninterruptible power source (UPS) before use. The power supply must be supplied by the customer.

    1. Verify that the KRX-3V5 is set up as detailed in Chapter 3, Installation. 2. Ensure that the 24 VAC power supply to the KRX-3V5 or connect PoE via network cable (RJ-45). The Status Indicator will illuminate blue (blinking) to indicate the decoder is ON and running properly.

  • Page 18: Configuring The Viconnet (Ip/Lan) Version

    Configuring the ViconNet (IP/LAN) Version The KRX-3V5 is shipped with one CD that contains the ViconNet Version 5 software needed to setup your IP system, including the application setup, the firmware and setup software (VNSetup). Ensure that the ViconNet Workstation meets the minimum requirements, and is running the ViconNet application (Version 5) (VNSetup).
  • Page 19 VNSetup is installed on the configuring PC\Workstation. Installation is done using the CD included. Make sure the MAC address and password of the KRX-3V5 is available. Use MAC Address log provided. Verify that the KRX-3V5 is physically connected to the configuring workstation via the network.
  • Page 20 4. The unit will display in the Selected unit box. Click Refresh unit to see the latest status. Note: In order to install firmware, the PC and KRX-3V5 must be on the same IP network. The following paragraphs describe the other tabs in the VNSetup utility.

  • Page 22 Gateway, DNS, DHCP, and Debug level, on a scale of 0-4, where 4 is most debug information. Time zone, Daylight saving time, Local time, Local date are not applicable for the KRX-3V5. Note: Debug level should only be changed by direction of the Vicon’s Technical Services Team.
  • Page 23 The Install tab allows you to install and upgrade to newer versions of the software. The Version to install: drop-down lists all software available on the VMC for the KRX-3V5. Note: If the list is grayed out, make sure that you are pointing to the correct directories. See the Setup section in this chapter.

  • Page 25 Advanced The Advanced tab allows you to handle troubleshoot and repair network problems and/or unit with a KRX-3V5 should they occur. Four buttons are provided to quickly resolve problems. Restart unit Restarts the hardware. Unjam unit Restarts the unit’s firmware.

It also allows you to scale the VGA output to fill the screen on large monitors and provides you with the option to display the Vicon logo on inactive screens. To set the TV system type, select TV system in the Function selection drop-down. Select NTSC or PAL in the Function options drop-down.

Select None, BNC, S-Video or VGA 720x576 in the Function options drop-down. Channel 3 only provides None or BNC. Click Apply to save the settings.     Verify that the monitor(s) is correctly connected to the correct output type: BNC, S-Video or VGA. Chapter 6 - Maintenance There is no maintenance required on the KRX-3V5; however, a periodic dusting of the exterior will ensure maximum unit cooling.

    Let the required picture quality and cable distances provide a guide in choosing the best cable type. For cables other than the approved Vicon types below, contact the manufacturers listed below. Note that “BC” refers to bare copper and “TC” refers to tinned copper.

    Choose a Belden cable type by referring to the characteristics and maximum distances listed below. The maximum distance for the most reliable digital control refers to the distance between the KRX-3V5 and the Camera Dome/Receiver Assembly. The characteristics of the cables in the table below should be used as a guideline when cables other than Belden are used.

    Chapter 10 – Network Cable Recommendations Caution: Careful selection of proper cable is essential to obtain the best performance. Vicon assumes no responsibility for poor performance when cables other than the recommended types, or equivalent, are used. Materials Use pure copper stranded conductors to obtain a low DC resistance. The preferred insulation and cable jacket is Polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
