9. After the pump has been running for 10 minutes with steady leakge, tighten the
gland nuts by one sixth of full turn. Continue to adjust at ten minute intervals, each
time evenly by one sixth of full turn, until leakage is reduced to an acceptable level.
there should be leakage of 60 to 80 drops per minute.
CAUTION:
Excessive gland pressure will cause damage by cutting off lubrication to the packing and
packing will burn and damage the sleeve.
