5. OPERATION OF HORIZONTAL SPLIT CASE PUMPS.
In order to ensure satisfactory operation of t pumps, review carefully and perform all the
operation outlined as below.
5.1. PRECOMMISONNING CHECKS.
Check the pump bearings are fitted with sufficient amount of lubricant.
In addition to the above, it is advisable to check the motor bearings for lubrication.
This should be done in accordance manufacturer's recommendation as listed in the
motor installation manual.
When possible, turn the pump shaft by hand to insure that the parts do not bind.
Motor is correctly wired to starting device, check voltage, phase and frequency on
motor name plate with line circuit.
Before the coupling alignment, check the drive rotation to see that it matches the
pump rotation. Pump rotation is indicated by arrow in the pump casing.
The unit base plate is grouted and bolted to the foundation.
Alignment between pump and motor.
Fill the suction with liquid and check for leakage of joints. Tighten the leaking joints
or replace gaskets where ever necessary.
5.2. STARTING
Close the discharge line valve.
Open fully in suction line valve if provided.
Turn on seal water to the stuffing box where external pipe supplied.
Prime the pump I one of the following ways.
If the pump operates under positive suction conditions, open vent valve on the
top of the pump casing. After all entrained air has escaped, closed the vent
