  • Page 9 Do not short-circuit the battery terminals with metallic objects, such as key holders. It could lead to overheating, burns and other injuries.     Using the Multi Control Dial Turning the multi control dial clockwise is equivalent to pressing the button, while turning the multi control dial counterclockwise is equivalent to pressing the button (it is equivalent to pressing button with some functions). You can perform the following operations when you turn the multi control dial.

    Formatting a Memory Card You should always format a new memory card or one from which you wish to erase all images and other data. Please note that formatting (initializing) a memory card erases all data, including protected images and other file types. Use the button to select [Format] in the [ up)] menu, then press the FUNC./SET button.

    If the camera does not work properly, the inserted memory card may be malfunctioning. Reformatting the memory card may solve the problem. When a non-Canon brand memory card is malfunctioning, reformatting it may solve the problem. Memory cards formatted in other cameras, computers, or peripheral devices may not operate correctly in this camera.

    Resetting Settings to Their Default Values You can reset the menu and button settings to the default settings in one operation. Select [Reset All] in the [ menu and press the FUNC./SET button. The message "Reset settings to default?" appears on the LCD monitor. Use the button to select [OK], then press the FUNC./SET button.

    Press the FUNC./SET button. Use the button to select [ (Compression)], and then the button to set the compression rate. You can shoot the image right after selecting settings by pressing the shutter button. This screen will appear again once the image or movie is shot.

    Using the Digital Zoom Mode Dial With the combined optical and digital zoom functions, images can be zoomed as follows: 4.5x, 5.7x, 7.3x, 9.2x,11x and 14x (except for digital macro). Images become coarser the more they are digitally zoomed. To zoom back out, turn the zoom lever toward Select [Digital Zoom] from the [ [On] with the button.

    Using the Mode Dial Shooting a Movie The following four movie modes are available. You can select the resolution and frame rate until the memory card is full shooting in this mode (p. 39). Standard Resolution: Frame Rate: Maximum Size: 1 GB/movie Use this mode when viewing movies on a computer screen at a large size.

    Shooting Panoramic Images (Stitch Assist) Use this mode to shoot a series of overlapping frames for merging (stitching) into a large panoramic image using a computer. Please use the bundled PhotoStitch program to merge the images on a computer.
  • Page 48 Framing a Subject The PhotoStitch program detects the overlapping portions of adjoining images and merges them. When composing shots, try to include a distinctive item (landmark) in the overlapping portions. Compose each frame so that it overlaps 30 - 50% of the adjoining image.

Compared with the 1st-curtain, 2nd-curtain the flash fires later and this allows you to shoot images in which, for example, a car's lights seem to trail off behind.

    Shooting Images at Set Intervals (Intervalometer) Mode Dial You can shoot images at a set interval. This function can be used for fixed-point observation of plants and blooming flowers. The shooting interval time can be set from 1 to 60 minutes and 2 to 100 images can be shot.
