TIG WELDING
Problem
1. Unsatisfactory
weld bed, poor
fusion at edges
of weld, Uneven
filler joint.
2. Arc cannot be
established.
3. Electrode melts
oxidizes when

an arc is struck,
Poor Weld.
4. Arc not smooth,
glitches.
Possible Cause
1.1 Welding current
too high/ low.
1.2 Travel speed
too fast/ low.
1.3 Wrong placement
of filler rod.
2.1 Work clamp/ torch
not connected
wrong terminals
to
2.2 Incorrect Gas flow
/ Empty cylinder.
3.1 Inadequate gas.
3.2 Gas or Electrode
contaminated.
3.3 Torch is clogged.
3.4 Electrode
too small
for welding current.
4.1 Wrong tungsten
electrode used.
4.2 Incorrect shielding
gas is being used.

Solution
1.1 Set the correct
welding current.
1.2 Correct the speed
for weld travel.
1.3 Re-position the
filler rod
2.1 Connect the
clamp & torch to

Replace them.
3.3 Clean the torch.
