4. The front panel displays all power controls and indicators.
The power control dial (1) adjusts the amount of heating power supplied
to the tip. The power increases linearly over a range of 1 to 10, 1 being
minimal power and 10 being maximum power. The temperature dial (2)
sets the tip operating temperature in the range 100 to 600°C as shown on
the LED display (6). The green Heat light (3) comes on when the tip is
heating. The right rocker switch (4) selects the Use or the Store mode.
ALWAYS PUT THE UNIT ON STORE WHEN NOT IN USE. The left
rocker switch (5) selects either the continuous (Cont.) or the touch mode
(Touch). The low battery light (7) comes on when the battery needs to be
recharged, and the charge light (8) is illuminated during charging.
5. Modes of operation.
In the continuous mode the tip is heated continuously at the
temperature shown on the display. The heat, but not the display, will
turn off automatically after a time delay of 1-2 minutes unless the touch
switch has been activated. The time out is reset by operating the touch
switch, providing another 1-2 minutes of operation. In the touch mode
the tip will only be heated when the touch switch is activated.
Whenever the unit is not being used it should be put in the Store
mode with the panel switch. The unit is deactivated in the Store mode
preventing battery drain. This will also prevent the tip from heating
in case the touch switch is activated accidentally. This feature should
always be used when changing tips.
6. Patented design.
The System B HeatSource uses a patented design by which the temperature
of each tip is sensed at the very end and controlled automatically in order
to keep the tip operating at its preset temperature. The tip reaches this
preset temperature in less than a second using maximum available power
while heating up. As soon as the final temperature has been reached, the
heating power is cut off to the low level needed to keep the tip at the preset
temperature. If the tip temperature drops, the heating power is immediately
increased to compensate for this temperature drop. Both the design of the
tip and the operation of the control unit are protected by patents.
7. The power output and control feature.
The Power dial adjusts the amount of power available to heat the
tip. The maximum output power is about 20W. When the tip is
cooled down, for example by making contact with gutta percha,
the heating power is automatically increased. Best performance is
obtained when operating at full power, i.e. a power setting of 10.
The tip life can be extended to some degree by operating at a lower
power setting. However, this will decrease the heating performance.
System B HeatSource User Guidelines
1. Installing the tip.
Put the unit in the Store mode using the panel switch. Loosen the
pinvise nut and insert the tip as far as it will go. The thicker part of
the tip should disappear into the pinvise. Hand tighten the nut.
2. Tip life depends on temperature.
The tips have life expectancies which greatly depend on the operating
temperature and power setting. The tip life could be relatively short when
operating at maximum temperature (600°C) and maximum power setting
(10). All tips will gradually lose their heating efficiency over a period of time.
Cleaning, Sterilization, and Maintenance
Sterilization
Pluggers and tips must be cleaned and sterilized before every use:
1. Clean with water and mild, non-abrasive, detergent such as dish
washing liquid. Dry thoroughly.
2. Double wrap the pluggers and tips using a typical central service
wrapping technique and place into autoclave unit avoiding contact
with other instruments.

3. Operate sterilization cycle at 250°F for 30 minutes or 270°F for
25 minutes. Follow the instructions supplied with your autoclave
unit for specific operating instructions.
Expected Life of Accessories
All accessories are reusable only for a limited number of procedures.
This number is highly dependent on how and for what duration the
instrument is used during each procedure and, therefore, will vary sig-
nificantly from user to user. If the device function appears to be erratic,
an accessory may have exceeded its useful life and should be replaced.
Cleaning
The System B 1005 enclosure and the handpiece should be wiped
down with a cloth soaked in any of the common non-abrasive, mild,
cleaning liquids containing alcohol. Do not submerge the device or
let liquid enter the enclosure and handpiece.
