Speed
The REA PC-Scan LD 4 has a network connection with the maximum speed of 1 Gbit/s. If the REA
device is connected directly to a PC and the PC can process 100 Mbit/s on the network interface, the
setting to the maximum speed supported by both devices (here 100 Mbit/s) is done automatically. If the
REA device and the PC are connected via an Ethernet switch that allows 1 Gbit/s and the PC still can
process a maximum of 100 Mbits/s, the speed is not adapted automatically because the Ethernet
switch connects with the PC with 100 Mbit/s and the REA PC-Scan LD 4 with 1 Gbit/s. In this case, the
REA PC-Scan LD 4 sends the data 10 times as fast as the PC network interface can handle.
Broken connections
Broken connections occur when the REA verifier is integrated together with the PC in a company
network. A high network load can lead to transmission errors, which are displayed as network errors. In
this case, a second network card should be installed in the PC that is only used for the REA PC-Scan
LD 4.
Problems sometimes occur when the network connection is built with the modules of the manufacturer
Realtek. Again, a second network card that works with the chip set from another manufacturer helps to
solve the problem.
If both the PC and the REA PC-Scan LD 4 use 1 Gbit/s via a network interface but both are connected
with an Ethernet switch that has a speed of a maximum of 100 Mbit/s, this might also lead to
communication errors. In such a case, a 1 Gbit/s Ethernet switch must be used.
Sensor errors
A check must be made that the camera module is fitted right. Sensor errors can also occur in the case
of unstable connections (see "Disconnects).
Firewall
Most computers use a firewall software that prevents in ongoing operation the external theft of data or
that unwanted software is installed from the outside. This feature is mandatory for all computers
connected to the Internet.
The REA PC-Scan LD 4 works via the network. The firewall must let data packets of the device pass
through. Particularly in very strictly administered networks, the firewall is often so restrictive that
communication is not possible. The firewall must approve the GigE Vision log based on UDP.
