1 Introduction REA PC-SCAN LD 4 The REA PC-Scan LD 4 is a measuring device for quality control of printed bar codes. It is a verifier with a measuring head that must always be connected with a PC over a network. The optical measurement of bar codes is performed by the measuring head.
VERIFIER 1.1 Scope of delivery of the REA PC-Scan LD 4 In the basic version, the REA PC-Scan LD 4 is delivered with the following parts. REA PC-Scan LD 4 verifier Depending on the order, a version with a measuring head with a measuring length of 133 and/or 220 mm and a laser diode with a light wave length of 670 nm (set 030.202.000 or 030.202.010)
VERIFIER 1.2 Conditions for transport, storage and operation The REA PC-Scan LD 4 is only allowed to be transported in the supplied CAUTION case or the transport packaging. Transport: The delivery of the verifier from the manufacturer always takes place in special transport packaging.
Page 10
VERIFIER The REA PC-Scan LD 4 must be placed in the case or cardboard packaging only in the shown way. The device should always be sent in the case or original transport packaging since both provide optimum transport protection. Storage: The device must always be stored in dry, dust-free rooms at room temperature. To protect the device from dust residues, it should be protected by a cover when not in use or be stored in the transport packaging.
2 Safety instructions 2.1 General safety instructions Before starting up the REA product and operating it, it is imperative for you to read and comply with this Operating Manual and in particular the safety instructions very diligently. Additional information and symbols are provided in the Appendix11.
Faults that impair safety must be eliminated immediately (see Chapter “Intended use”). In the case of faults, the REA PC-Scan LD 4 must be immediately shut down and is only allowed to be started up again after proper repair! Caution: In normal operation, the REA PC-Scan LD 4 should be operated only while standing, with the controls pointing upwards.

If bar codes on round surfaces must be measured, the REA PC-Scan LD 4 must be put on its back. For safety reasons, the base plate should always point away from the user in order to protect the eyes from the laser beam.
For transport, the measuring head should always be removed from the device (transport protection). Unscrew the 2 Torx 8 screws on the front side of the REA PC-Scan LD 4 (see Fig. 3.6.1). Fig. 3.6.2 ...
The included PoE power supply unit is connected to the mains with the included network cable. In the basic setting, the REA PC-Scan LD 4 is delivered with an automatic network address assignment (DHCP or ZeroConf). Apart from the connection to the network, no further configuration is required. A driver installation is not required.
The REA TransWin32 software is always included in the standard scope of delivery of the REA PC- Scan LD 4. The license for the use of the software is tied to the REA PC-Scan LD 4 device and not to the PC on which REA TransWin32 has been installed.

Disconnections in the communication between the TransWin32 Windows software and the REA PC- Scan LD 4 might occur, or error messages, e.g. sensor error, pop up. In this case, the REA PC-Scan LD 4 should be connected to a separate Ethernet port.
The “REA VeriCube” REA verifier model is used VeriCube The ADB Client installation option installs the REA article database software. The ScanLink Assistant option allows for the installation and use of the ScanLink software for the advanced analysis and evaluation of ISO-standardised data structures.
Page 26
They are always available to all users independent of the installation version. Restoring the backup of the old configuration is valid only for the REA VeriCube type but not for the REA PC-Scan LD 4 (except for the configuration for saving the test reports).

Depending on which type of installation was selected, the following icons can then be found on the desktop. In the current software, only TransWin32 and maybe REA ADB are shown. The other two icons are not required since these programs are started and exited automatically with TransWin32.
Page 29
Both are started automatically together with the start of TransWin32 and are closed when it is ended. REA ADB is the article database for managing, creating and importing article data, which is to be used with the REA verifiers. The program is started by the user as required.

Scan LD 4 must be reconfigured to a fixed IP address. Apart from these settings, no further configuration or driver installation is required in this version either. To import the changed settings, the REA PC Scan LD 4 must be switched off after the change and then restarted.
The network address of the REA PC Scan LD 4 is set to an automatic address assignment at the factory. If the REA PC Scan LD 4 is operated in a company network with a DHCP server, this server will assign a network address (IP address) to the REA PC Scan LD 4. In some cases, the MAC address (see Chapter 3.12) must be entered in the server.
MAC address in the network. With such a constellation, the MAC address of the REA device used must be entered in the filter table. This must be done by a user with administrator rights, e.g. the IT network administration.
These values of the REA PC-Scan LD 4 need to be checked on a regular basis. To do so, the REA PC-Scan LD 4 must be calibrated. The supplement with test code includes instructions for calibration. The calibration is described in detail in Chapter 4.2.
OK. For calibration, the supplied test code is measured and the result documented. A test report with the reference results is supplied by REA only for this code. The test report with the reference results is furnished with a stamp:...
Page 39
The test code should always be stored protected from light. Scratches, stains and other damage must be avoided. REA Elektronik GmbH guarantees a lifetime of 2 years for this test code if the handling instructions are observed.
With these cards, the calibration is one step closer to the national standards (PTB, N.I.S.T, etc.) than with that of the REA calibration card, which is based on them.
