Attaching Chute Deflector

(Hardware D)
CAUTION:
Do not run your lawn mower without chute
deflector or an approved grass catcher in place. The
deflector will deflect a projectile thrown by the blade into
the lawn.
The chute deflector provided is a safety device. Do not operate
the mower unless the chute deflector has been properly
installed.
1. Place the chute deflector in position on the deck, aligning
holes. See Figure 9.
2. Insert the carriage bolts from the underside of the deck up
through the chute deflector. Secure each bolt with a flat washer and locknut.
NOTE: Make certain all nuts and bolts are tightened securely.

Attaching Starter Rope

(Hardware C)
1. The starter rope is attached to the engine. Additional rope
may be wound around the starter handle. If so, unwind the
rope from the handle.
2. With the spark plug wire disconnected and grounded,
depress the blade control handle and pull the rope out of
the engine.
3. Place the rope guide around the starter handle, so the
opening in the rope guide is toward the front of the mower.
Insert the rope guide into the right side of the handle, and
secure with hex locknut. See Figure 10.
NOTE: If the starter rope becomes disconnected from rope guide on handle, disconnect and ground the spark
plug wire. Depress the blade control handle and pull the starter rope out from engine slowly. Slip the starter rope
into the rope guide bolt on handle.
