    MRT190H 1 INTRODUCTION Maxim rear-tine tillers feature heavy gauge steel, hardened steel tines and ruggedly built Hydrostatic transmission. For additional durability, an extra heavy-duty frame. It’s this simple, yet sturdy design that makes Maxim tillers low maintenance and easy to use.

  • Page 10 MRT190H • Only allow responsible individuals who are familiar with the instructions to operate the machine. Do not allow children to operate this machine. Do not allow adults to operate the machine without proper instruction. • Thoroughly inspect the area where the machine is to be used and remove all foreign objects.

    • The tines of the tiller should not rotate when the engine is idling. If they do, contact your local dealer or Maxim technical service for instruction. • If an object becomes lodged in the tines, rotate the ON/OFF switch located on the engine to the OFF position.
  • Page 12 MRT190H PREVENTING CARBON MONOXIDE POSIONING • Always start and run engine outdoors. Do not start or run engine in an enclosed area, even if doors or windows are open. • Never try to ventilate engine exhaust indoors. Carbon monoxide can reach dangerous levels very quickly.
  • Page 13 MRT190H • Always wipe up excess (spilled) fuel from engine before starting. Clean up spilled fuel immediately. If fuel is spilled, do not start the engine but move product and fuel container from area. Clean up spilled fuel and allow to evaporate and dry after wiping and before starting.

    MRT190H SERVICE • Always stop the engine whenever you leave the equipment, before cleaning, repairing or inspecting the unit. Engine should be turned off and cool. Never make adjustments or repairs with the engine (motor) running. Disconnect the spark plug wire and keep the wire away from the plug.

    MRT190H Should a decal become unreadable because of being worn, faded or otherwise damaged during the use of your tiller; please use the part number information provide to order a replacement label. These decals are easily applied and will act as a constant visual reminder to you, and others who may use the equipment, to follow the safety instructions necessary for safe, effective operation of your tiller.

    MRT190H 2.6 Preparation 1. Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to be used and remove all foreign objects. 2. Disengage the tines before starting the engine (motor). 3. Always wear substantial footwear and long pants. Do not operate the equipment when barefoot or wearing open sandals.

    MRT190H 15. Use only attachments and accessories approved by the manufacturer of the tiller. 16. Never operate the tiller without good visibility or light. 17. Be careful when tilling in hard ground. The tines may catch in the ground and propel the tiller forward.

    MRT190H 7 OPERATION 7.1 Drive operation 1. With hands on handlebar, gripping the micro safety switch tabs, unit can be operated in forward/reverse along with tine operation. 2. Twist handlebar control forward for Forward drive, twist control backward for Reverse drive.

    MRT190H � � � CAUTION Until you are accustomed to handling your tiller, start actual field use with throttle in slow position (midway between “FAST” and “IDLE”). 7.4 Depth Bar Stake The Depth Bar Stake be raised or lowered, to allow you more versatile tilling and cultivating or to transport your tiller using the power of the Hydraulics more easily.

    MRT190H 7.6 Tilling • Tilling is digging into, turning over, and breaking up packed soil before planting. Loose, unpacked soil helps root growth. Best tilling depth is 4” to 6” (10-15 cm). A tiller will also clear the soil of unwanted vegetation. The decomposition of this vegetable matter enriches the soil.

    MRT190H 7.7 Cultivating • Cultivating is destroying the weeds between rows to prevent them from robbing nourishment and moisture from the plants. At the same time, breaking up the upper layer of soil crust will help retain moisture in the soil. Best digging depth is 1” to 3” (2.5 - 7.5 cm).

    MRT190H Engine Oil – 1.16 quart, (38.63 oz) Use only high-quality detergent oil related with API service classification SG, SF/CC, CDL. Select the oil’s SAE viscosity grade according to your expected temperature. Check engine oil level before each use Change the oil after the first 20 hours of operation and then every 100 hours after than or at least twice a year.

    MRT190H 9.7 Muffler Do not operate tiller without muffler. Do not tamper with exhaust system. Damaged mufflers or spark arresters could create a fire hazard. Inspect periodically and replace if necessary. If your engine is equipped with a spark arrester screen assembly, remove every 50 hours for cleaning and inspection.
