    • Always check the waterproof case seal is clean and free of debris prior to use in water. • Do not attempt to open the ZX-40 or modify it in any way. If the ZX-40 has been tampered with the warranty will be void. Maintenance and repairs should only be performed by Zero-X.

  • Page 9: Charging The Battery

    Check your local recycling facility for more information. • Only use a certified 5V 1A USB charger to charge the ZX-40. Using non certified chargers could potentially damage the ZX-40, or the ZX-40 battery and void the warranty.

  • Page 10: Micro Sd Card Compatibility

    Micro SD Card from a well known brand. NOTE: There is only one correct way to insert the Micro SD Card into your ZX-40. It should easily slide in. Do not force the card into the slot as it may damage the unit and the card.

    SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the recording first. 2. Once the ZX-40 is fully charged insert your Micro SD Card into the correct slot (see the “4.0 COMPONENTS” ON PAGE 7). 3. PRESS the ON/OFF BUTTON on the front of the unit to turn ON the ZX-40.

    ZX-40 CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS 6.1 POWER ON/OFF BUTTON The ON/OFF button is located at the front of the ZX-40 in the top left corner. This is used to turn ON/OFF the unit. The ON/OFF button is also used to change between the camera modes, settings and also serves as the back button when you are in the navigation settings.

    6.4 SETTING THE TIME To set the correct time on your ZX-40, follow the below steps once your unit is turned ON. You can set the time and date in separate settings. 1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the recording first.

    6.5 SETTING THE TIME FORMAT The ZX-40 has 3 time formats you can choose from, including how the time is displayed. The options are YYYY/MM/DD, MM/DD/YYYY and DD-MM-YYYY. The ZX-40 default setting is DD/MM/YYYY. To change follow the below steps: 1.

    6.6 SETTING THE DATE To set the correct date on your ZX-40, follow the below steps. You set the time and date in separate settings. 1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the recording first.

    6.7 AUTO POWER OFF The auto power OFF function is designed to help extend the battery life of the ZX-40. The ZX-40 will automatically POWER OFF after a selected period of inactivity (3, 5, 10 MINUTES and OFF). The ZX-40 is factory defaulted to 3 MINUTES.

    NOTE: When WiFi is connected to your smartphone, you cannot use the functions on the ZX-40 via the camera however you can manage functions via the app in this mode. You can also use your smartphone as a wireless recording monitor when in WiFi mode.

    6.9 WIFI INFORMATION If you need to find out the connection name and password of the ZX-40 WiFi ID, you can find this in the WiFi information section. To access this, follow the below steps: 1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the recording first.

    6.10 RESET WIFI If you need to reset ZX-40 WiFi connection, follow the below steps: 1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the recording first. 2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen, this will open up the SETTINGS MENU.

    6.11 USE FRONT SCREEN VIEW The ZX-40 has two screens, a small front screen and a large back screen. If you want a viewfinder perspective of your footage (i.e. your cameras video or photo view) from the front of your action camera, follow the below steps: 1.

    6.12 ROTATE IMAGE You have the ability to flip the image vertically (upside down) when you are using the ZX-40, by turning on this function. The ZX-40 default setting is OFF. To change this setting, follow the steps: 1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the recording first.

    6.13 DVR MODE When the DVR MODE is activated, the ZX-40 will continue to record until the unit has run out of power. The ZX-40 default setting is OFF. To change this setting, follow the below steps: 1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the recording first.

    There are four options to choose from for the screen saver function activating: 30 SECONDS, 1 MINUTE, 2 MINUTES and OFF. The ZX-40 default setting is set to 30 SECONDS. To change the this setting, follow the below steps: 1.

    6.15 LED INDICATOR The ZX-40 has LED indicator lights that allow you to see if a function is active. The LED indicator is on the top of the unit and notifies you when WiFi is connected by an orange light. There is also a two small LED indicator lights on the left side of the screen;...

    6.16 KEYPAD TONE You have the ability to change the volume of your keypad tone on the ZX-40. There are 3 volumes to choose from (High, Middle and Low). The ZX-40 default setting is Middle. To change, follow the below steps.

    PICTURE & VIDEO SETTINGS There are multiple shooting functions that ZX-40 offers. You have the choice of 8 options: VIDEO, SLOW, LOOP, LAPSE, PHOTO, AUTO, BURST and TIMER.     SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON again. DELETING FILES IN PLAYBACK MODE To delete any files that have been taken on the ZX-40 or are on the Micro SD Card, PRESS the TRASH CAN ICON on the bottom right corner of the screen. You will be prompted to confirm or cancel.

    RESTORE DEFAULT SETTINGS This setting will restore the ZX-40 to factory default. All setting adjustments made to the unit will be erased. If you need to restore to factory settings, follow the below steps: 1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the recording first.

    FIRMWARE VERSION To check the current FIRMWARE of your ZX-40, follow the below steps: 1.     When using the App, please note: Android users will be taken to a home screen before entering the shoot screen. iPhone users will be taken straight to the shoot screen once they have connected the ZX-40 to the App. 11.0 MANUAL STEPS FOR CONNECTING TO THE ZX-ACTION APP Turn on your phone and scan the QR code or search the App store for ZX-ACTION and download the App.

    11.1 ZX-ACTION APP The ZX-40 has an in-built WIFI connection which is used to wirelessly connect your smartphone to your ZX-40, allowing you to use your smartphone as an external wireless monitor, view the files, change settings and trigger recording on your smartphone. To connect your smartphone to the ZX-40, follow the below steps: 1.

    NOTE: Ensure that the WiFi on the ZX-40 and your smartphone are both turned on. If the WIFI on your smartphone is off, turn it on and refresh the search. To see how to turn on the WiFi for the ZX-40, “6.8 WIFI” ON PAGE 17. Do not connect to any other WiFi when you are connecting the ZX-40 to its App.

    11.4 ADJUSTING SETTINGS VIA THE APP If you prefer to change the settings of the ZX-40 via the App you can do this through the settings tab. You can adjust the settings for the mode you are shooting in, as well as the software settings for the ZX- 40.
