High Efficiency Video Coding, also known as H.265, is a next-generation digital
video compression format developed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group
(VCEG) together with the ISO/IEC JTC1 Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG).
Compared with its previous generation (H.264), HEVC offers a higher data
compression ratio.
Refers to a video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video,
most commonly at display resolutions of 1280×720 (720p) or 1920×1080 (1080i or
1080p, full HD). High definition (HD) refers to an the increase in display or visual
resolution of television formats (HDTV), high definition video (used in HDTV
broadcasting, digital film and computer HD video film formats), high definition
multimedia interface (HDMI), an all-digital audio and video interface capable of
transmitting uncompressed streams and other formats for recording and transmitting
visual and audio communications.
