During the inlet phase, the quantity of fuel flow to the pumping element is determined by the regulating valve. The
regulating valve, dependent on the PWM command sent from the ECU, meters the fuel to the pumping elements.
When the pumping element starts decreasing the volume the inlet valve will close. The fuel is now trapped in the
pumping chamber and the pressure will start to build. When the pressure in the pumping chamber becomes higher
than the pressure in the common rail the outlet valve will open the fuel will flow to the common rail.
