Connecting the unit to your home network
(network setting)
After you have installed VAIO Media plus on
your computer, carry out the network settings to
connect the unit to your computer.
If you have any trouble with the network
connections, consult the "Troubleshooting"
section (page 54).
Setting up the unit to connect
to your home network
Note
You may encounter setup difficulties if the unit and the
wireless router/wireless LAN access point are located too
far from each other. If you do, place the devices closer to
each other.
During this setup procedure, you will need
some additional information. Make sure you
know the following:
 the identification name broadcast by your
wireless network (SSID)
 if your wireless home network is secured by
encryption, the network key (security key)*
for your network.

key, or WPA2 key
This information should be available from
your wireless router/wireless LAN access point
operating manual, from the person who set
up your wireless network, or the from the
information provided by your internet service
provider.
For details on the network name (SSID),
network key (security key), WEP, WPA and
WPA2, see pages 78 and 79.

Select [Settings] from the Home
menu.
Settings menu appears.

Select [Network Setting].
"Switch to Home Network, when the setting
is completed. " appears in the display. Select
[OK] to continue the operation.

Select [Connection Setting]
– [Manual].

When "Change the wireless LAN
setting values?" appears, select [Yes].
The unit automatically starts searching for all
available wireless networks (SSID).

Select the network name (SSID) from
the list.
The display changes to the Network key
(security key) input display.
The Network key (security key) input display
appears only when your home network is

secured by encryption. If it does not appear,
skip step 6 and go to step 7.
Tip
If the name of the network (SSID) that you want
to connect to does not appear in the display:
Select [Direct Input] in the list of networks and enter
the network name (SSID) manually. For details, see
"When the desired network name (SSID) does not
appear in the list of networks" (page 19).
