Congratulations for your purchase of this 2.5-inch disk Cage. The User’s Guide is intended to allow you to install and use the 2.5-inch disk Cage N8154-24 correctly and safely. Read this manual thoroughly before handling the cage. In addition, refer to this guide whenever you want to know how to use the cage or some malfunction occurs.

Power Supply and Power Cord Use CAUTION Disconnect the power cord(s) before installing or removing the product in/from the server. Make sure to power off the server and disconnect the power cord(s) from a power outlet and DC cable from the product before installing/removing the product in/from the server, or connecting with the peripheral devices.
Do not use any unauthorized interface cable. Use only interface cables authorized by NEC and locate a proper device and connector before connecting a cable. Using an unauthorized cable or connecting a cable to an improper destination may cause a short circuit, resulting in a fire.

Cleaning and Working wit h the Product WARNING Do not disassemble, repair, or alter the server. Never attempt to disassemble, repair, or alter the product on any occasion. Failure to follow this instruction may cause an electric shock or fire as well as malfunctions of the product. Disconnect the power plug before accessing inside the server.
Note the following when you use the cage. If you ignore the notes, your assets (including important data and/or other devices) may be damaged. The 2.5-inch disk Cage N8154-24 is intended to be equipped with hard disk drives for NEC Express5800 series servers. Do not use the cage for any other purposes.
The device failure due to shock or thermal changes, as well as operator's misconduct, may cause loss of data. To avoid loss of data, NEC recommends that you should make a back-up copy of your valuable data on a regular basis.

2.1 The Software shall solely be used in the NEC Express5800 servers. 2.2 NEC grants you the right to use the Software only in the country in which you acquired the Software in accordance with the conditions of the preceding paragraph.

Step 1 Checking the Contents in Package The package contains the items listed in the table below. Make sure that all the items are provided. Names and Functions of Sections SAS/SATA connector (MINI SAS_1 , MINI SAS_2) The SAS/SATA connector is used to connect the cage to the disk array controller. Use the MINI SAS cable coming with the cage. Power receptacles (2) (CN1 , CN2) The power receptacles are used to connect with the power cables of the server.

Step 2 Installing N8154-24 in Server When installing in the T120b-M Installation (First 2.5-inch disk Cage) Exit from all the application programs and shutdown the system. Turn off the power of the server and disconnect all the power cords from the receptacles.

Remove the two screws fixing the thermal sensor board. Disconnect the cable from the thermal sensor board beforehand. Remove the two flat countersunk screws from front of the server chassis.

Slowly and carefully lay down the server so that its right side faces the floor. Remove the two hexagon set screws from bottom of the chassis. Remove the two screws from the side of disk cage frame.

Move the position of disk cage frame by lifting the frame along the L-shaped groove. Use the two screws removed in step 10 to fix the disk cage frame in place.

Rotate the stabilizers on the bottom of the server, and then use the two screws removed in step 9 to fix the disk cage frame in place. Slowly and carefully raise the chassis.

Secure the front of chassis with two flat countersunk screws removed in Step 7. Install the 2.5-inch disk cage in the bottom slot on the front of the server, and then use the four screws that came with the server to fix the cage in place.

Use the four blank cover fixing screws removed in step 5 to fix the blank covers that came with the cage in place. Install the thermal sensor board you have removed in Step 6, to the bracket. Secure the thermal sensor board with two screws.

Pull out sensor cable from the chassis. Connect the cable to the thermal sensor board. Install the bracket with the thermal sensor board to chassis .pay attention not to damage the cable. Use the three screws that came with the cage server to fix this in place.

Connect the power cable, SAS/SATA cables, and SGPIO cable to the rear of the 2.5-inch disk cage, as shown in the figure below. – SGPIO cable Use the SGPIO cable to connect the SGPIO connector (J3) on the back of the 2.5-inch disk cage to the SGPIO A connector at the bottom of the motherboard.

<Connecting with the RAID Controller> Prepare one RAID Controller (Option). One K410-174(00) (optional) is necessary to connect up to four hard disk drives, and two are necessary to connect up to eight. – SAS/SATA cable If connecting up to four hard disk drives, connect the SAS/SATA connector (MINISAS_1) on the back of the 2.5-inch disk cage that is further away from you and the connector on the right side of the RAID controller mounted on the motherboard.

Installation (Second 2.5-inch disk Cage) Exit from all the application programs and shutdown the system. Turn off the power of the server and disconnect all the power cords from the receptacles. Remove the side cover from the server following the User’s Guide of the server. Remove the dummy cover from the slot to which the disk cage is to be inserted.

Remove the already attached slot labels (0 to 7), and attach slot labels 8 to 15, which came with the server, to the disk cage. Fix the 2.5-inch HDD cage to the chassis with four fixing screws. Connect the SGPIO cable, power cable, and SAS/SATA cables to the rear of the 2.5-inch disk cage. Prepare the second RAID Controller (Option).

– SGPIO cable Use the SGPIO cable to connect the SGPIO connector (J3) on the back of the 2.5-inch disk cage to the SGPIO B connector at the bottom of the motherboard. – Power cable Connect the server power cable P8 to the power connector on the back of the 2.5-inch disk cage that is further away from you (CN2), and connect the server power cable P7 to the power connector on the back of the 2.5-inch disk cage that is closer to you (CN1).

When installing in the T120b-E Exit from all the application programs and shutdown the system. Turn off the power of the server and disconnect all the power cords from the receptacles. Remove the left side cover and open the front mask from the server following the User’s Guide of the server.

Use the two screws that came with the cage to fix this in server Keep the remaining screws for future use.. Notice Remove the two screws, and then remove the BBU cage. Secure the Cover Base Frame to the chassis with four nylon rivets provided with the disk cage. Locate the Cover Base Frame from inside of the chassis, and secure it with the nylon rivets from outside of the chassis.

Connect the cables. <Connecting with the RAID controller> Connect the SAS cable (separately priced K cable), SGPIO cable (provided with the disk cage), and power cable according to the figure below.

<Connecting with the mother board> Prepare one K410-232(00) cable (option). In this connection, you can install no more than four hard disk drives. Tips Install the left side cover.

Step 4 SDR/PIA Set up Please update the server to apply SDR and PIA which accommodate the system configuration. Please prepare [SDR/PIA UPDATE TOOL ( 243-420216-002 ) ] CD-ROM which attached by to product. [Caution] Before applying SDR/PIA, error about sensors may be registered to the system event log (SEL). Please ignore any error log which registered before completing SDR/PIA setup.

Take care not to touch the left and right guide rails inside the cage. To replace the cage with new one, perform steps 5 to 8 in "Step 2 Installing N8154-24 in Server", and install the removed hard disk drives into the original slots.
