Functional overview
Slots for expansion cards
The server can be flexibly expanded via four slots (1x PCIe Gen3 x8 and 3x
PCIe Gen3 x16). A second CPU is required for slot 4.
The FBU for the 3.5" base-unit variant occupies one additional PCIe slot. If an
FBU will be installed in a 3.5" base-unit variant, slot 4 cannot be equipped with
an expansion card.
One horizontal chassis slot is occupied by the OCP module.
In the case of a liquid cooling (LC) is installed, slot 3 is occupied from the LC.
HDDs/SSDs
Depending on the chassis the server can be equipped with:
– 4x 3.5-inch HDD modules (with 1x ODD)
– 4x or 8x 2.5-inch HDD/SSD modules (with 1x ODD)
– 10x 2.5-inch HDD/SSD modules (without ODD)
– 4x 2.5-inch PCIe SSD modules and 6x 2.5-inch HDD/SSD modules (without
ODD)
– 10x 2.5-inch PCIe SSD modules (without ODD)
Each HDD/SSD module can accommodate a SAS/SATA HDD or a SATA SSD
with a maximum height of 1 inch. The HDD/SSD module is connected to the
SAS/SATA backplane wirelessly. This allows HDD/SSD modules to be plugged
in or pulled out easily.
To control SAS HDDs, an additional RAID controller must be installed. To
control PCIe SSD modules an additional PCIe controller must be installed.
Mixed configurations of SAS HDDs, SATA HDDs and SSDs within the same
logical drive (RAID array) are not supported.
If the server has the corresponding RAID configuration, HDD/SSD modules can
also be replaced during operation.
Onboard SATA controller
A SATA controller is integrated on the system board; up to eight SATA HDDs
can be connected to the controller.
For more information on configuring the controller, see section
"Configuring the
onboard SATA controller" on page
75.
