Operating Instructions
Read and understand these instructions before installing,
operating, or maintaining the equipment.
DANGER
!
Hazardous voltage.
Will cause death or serious injury.
Disconnect power before working on equipment.
CAUTION
Reliable functioning of the equipment is only ensured with certified com-
ponents.
Important notice
The products described herein are designed to be components of a customized
machinery safety-oriented control system. A complete safety-oriented system
may include safety sensors, evaluators, actuators and signaling components. It
is the responsibility of each company to conduct its own evaluation of the effec-
tiveness of the safety system by trained individuals. Siemens AG, its subsidiar-
ies and affiliates (collectively "Siemens") are not in a position to evaluate all of
the characteristics of a given machine or product not designed by Siemens. Sie-
mens accepts no liability for any recommendation that may be implied or stated
herein. The warranty contained in the contract of sale by Siemens is the sole
warranty of Siemens. Any statements contained herein do not create new war-
ranties or modify existing ones.
Areas of application
Application options
• When assembled and with the cover fitted, the signal column complies with
IP65 degree of protection!
• To ensure that the terminals are finger-proof (VDE 0106), the current-
carrying conductors must be properly connected to the terminals!
• The signal column has been designed and tested acc. to DIN VDE 0660. The
following information must be observed for safe operation:
The sound pressure of the acoustic elements could impair
your hearing in the direct vicinity of the device.

General mode of operation
The signal column converts electrical signals into:
• Visible signals (continuous light, continuous light LED
blinking light
, blinking light LED
and/or
• Audible signals (buzzer
, siren
• Alarm messages (cell phone, GSM)

Installation
When installing, ensure that the foundation is level (sealing!) and that there is
enough space for the whole signal column. The accessories are fitted using M4
screws. Hole spacings are specified in the illustrations (Fig. I, IIIa, IIIb) and on the
bottom of the respective mounting elements Ä/Å/É/Ê).
Mounting types
The following mounting types are available:
• Floor and bracket mounting (Fig. IIf, IIg, IIh)
• Pipe mounting (Fig. IIc, IId, IIe)
Installing the signal column
• Screw the following parts onto the device: mounting element - e.g. base with
integrated pipe for pipe mounting Ä (Fig. IIc, IId), base Å with pipe Æ for
pipe mounting (Fig. IIe), bracket for base mounting Ç (Fig. IIf), bracket for
tube mounting È (Fig. IId), bracket for single-sided base mounting É (Fig.
IIg), bracket for two-sided base mounting Ê (Fig. IIh), connection socket for
lateral outgoing cable Ë (Fig. IIe), connection socket for lateral outgoing
cable with magnet Ì (Fig. IIc) - (hole spacings are specified in the hole
illlustrations (Fig. I, IIIa, IIIb) and on the bottom of the mounting elements Ä/
Å/É/Ê).
• Guide cable through mounting element and connection element ¿ from
below (Fig. IIIc, IIId).
• To achieve IP65 degree of protection, place the seal (if included) between
the mounting element and the connection element.
• Connect the cable (Fig. IIIe, IIIf).
(for cage-clamp mounting: Press the screwdrvier into the square opening,
insert the cable into the round opening and then withdraw the screwdriver).
• Attach the connection element ¿ using screw A (floor and bracket
mounting) or screw B (pipe mounting) (Fig. IIIg).
• Insert incandescent lamp with socket or LED (bayonet socket) in signal
element (Fig. IIIh).
• Install signal elements.
Install up to 5 signal elements on each connection element (4 for standard AS-i, 3
for A/B technology AS-i, Fig. IIc). Attach each signal element in such a way that
the white lines on the base and the signal element are aligned. Then turn the
element in the direction of the arrow (arrow is printed on the signal element)
until it snaps into place (Fig. IVa, IVb, IVc).
Put on the cover À in such a way that the white line on the signal element and
the left line on the cover are aligned. Then turn the cover in the direction of the
arrow until it snaps into place (Fig. IVd). If using an acoustic element Ã
(Fig. IIc), this serves as the outer cover, since it has its own integrated cover
plate.
Maintenance
Care
Clean the signal column using mild cleaning agents that do not scratch or scour
it. Do not use thinners. Do not expose to drilling fluid!
Maintenance
To replace individual signal elements or defective incandescent lamps (bayonet
socket), dismount the signal column. To do this, turn the respective signal ele-
ment in the opposite direction of the arrow and lift off the element.
