    Before You Start Chapter 1: Thank you for purchasing this Synology product! Before setting up your new EDS14, please check the package contents to verify that you have received the items below. Also, make sure to read the safety instructions carefully to avoid harming yourself or damaging your EDS14.

    Safety Instructions Keep away from direct sunlight and from chemicals. Make sure the environment does not experience abrupt changes in temperature or humidity. Place the product right side up at all times. Do not place near any liquids. Before cleaning, unplug the power cord. Wipe with damp paper towels. Do not use chemical or aerosol cleaners.

    Hardware Setup Chapter 2: Power Your EDS14 Two methods are available to supply power to your EDS14. You may choose either of the following methods according to your needs. Start up with the Adapter 1 Push the button on the adapter provided in the package and pull out the plug case as illustrated below.

    Control Panel > Devices and Printers or press the physical eject button located on your EDS14. Connect EDS14 to a Local Network Your EDS14 comes with two LAN ports. You can use an IEEE 802.3ad compliant switch to enable dual LAN aggregation and failover support. LAN ports are numbered as shown below.

    Utilize DC Output You can leverage the software-controllable DC output on your EDS14 to power external devices according to a schedule. The voltage of this output will be the same as your DC IN (12V from the adapter provided in the package), with a maximum DC current of 1A.

    EDS14 by logging into DSM with a web browser. Note: It takes three to five minutes for the operating system to be installed the first time EDS14 starts up. Please wait until the power indicator turns static green to proceed.
