    POWER SUPPLIES The Model 2.5U1000 contains two switching power supply. The input voltage range to the power supply is 90–264 VAC, 50/60Hz, selected automatically. The AC input power is approximately 50 watts. PS1 is a multiple output supply. The main +15V, 2.5A supplies voltage to the A1 module. The –15 volts DC is supplied to the A1 module.

    2. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS GENERAL Operation of the Model 2.5U1000 broadband amplifier is quite simple. The input signal, whether swept of fixed in frequency, is fed into the jack marked INPUT and the amplifier output signal is taken from the jack labeled OUTPUT.

    3. THEORY OF OPERATION INTRODUCTION The Model 2.5U1000 RF amplifier consists of a single .01-1000 MHz RF amplifier assembly. The power supply section consists of an AC input filter, a circuit breaker, +5V, +15V, and -15V power supply and a +24V power supply.

    Model 2.5U1000 3.2.1.3 A3 2W Amplifier Assembly (Schematic 10041055) The 2W Amplifier Assembly has two gain stages (U1 and Q1) that have a combined gain of approximately 30 dB. The output RF power is greater than 2W at the 1 dB compression point POWER SUPPLY Refer to Schematic Diagram 10043442.

    4. MAINTENANCE GENERAL MAINTENANCE INFORMATION The Model 2.5U1000 should require very little maintenance since it is a relatively simple instrument. It is built with etched circuit wiring and solid state devices which should ensure long, trouble free life. However, should trouble occur special care must be taken in servicing to avoid damage to the devices or the etched circuit board.

    Refer to Schematic Number 10043442. 1. Is the cooling fan running? 2. If the fan is not running, check to see that the 2.5U1000 is plugged into a live outlet. Check the line cord, is the line cord plugged into the 2.5U1000 completely? 3.

    The Model 2.5U1000’s typical gain response at 0 dBm input and -20 dBm input is shown in Figure 4-1. The actual gain may vary considerably from that shown in Figure 4-1 but should be ≥ 34.0 dBm.
