Configuring PPPoE or PPPoA

FortiGate-60ADSL FortiOS 3.0 MR6 Install Guide
01-30006-0448-20080131
If you configure the interface to use PPPoE, the FortiGate unit automatically
broadcasts a PPPoE request. You can disable Connect to Server if you are
configuring the FortiGate unit off-line and you do not want the FortiGate unit to
send the PPPoE request.
FortiGate units support many of the PPPoE RFC features (RFC 2516) including
unnumbered IPs, initial discovery time out and PPPoE Active Discovery
Terminate (PADT).
To configure the ADSL interface, select one of these options. Complete the
following and select Apply.
Figure 6: ADSL interface PPPoE or PPPoA settings
Username
Enter the account user name that your ISP provides.
Password
Enter the account password that your ISP provides.
Unnumbered IP
Specify the IP address for the interface. If your ISP has assigned you a
block of IP addresses, use one of these IP addresses. Alternatively,
you can use, or borrow, the IP address of a configured interface on the
router. You may need to do this to minimize the number of unique IP
addresses within your network.
If you are borrowing an IP address remember the interface must be
enabled, or up to function correctly.
Initial Disc
Initial discovery timeout. The time to wait before retrying to start a
PPPoE discovery. Set Initial Disc to 0 to disable.
Timeout
Initial PADT
Initial Active Discovery Terminate (PADT) timeout in seconds. Use this
timeout to shut down the session if it is idle for this number of seconds.
timeout
PADT must be supported by your ISP. Set initial PADT timeout to 0 to
disable.
Authentication
Select the authentication method your ISP uses: PAP, CHAP,
MSCHAPv1, MSCHAPv2 or Auto.
Distance
Enter the administrative distance for the default gateway retrieved
from the server. The administrative distance, an integer from 1-255,
specifies the relative priority of a route when there are multiple routes
to the same destination. A lower administrative distance indicates a
more preferred route. The default distance for the default gateway is 1.
Retrieve default
Enable Retrieve default gateway from server to retrieve a default
gateway IP address from a PPPoE or PPPoA server. The default
gateway from
gateway is added to the static routing table.
server
Override internal
Enable Override internal DNS to replace the DNS server IP addresses
on the DNS page with the DNS addresses retrieved from the PPPoE
DNS
or PPPoA server.
