SmartSwitch 9000 9A000 MODULE SMB-1 FIRMWARE

Introduction

These instructions explain how to upgrade the SMB-1 Firmware PROM in the 9A000 module that is installed in the
SmartSwitch 9000 chassis. Please be sure to read and understand all of the instructions in this document and in the release
notes supplied in this upgrade kit. The upgrade involves locating the socket that holds the SMB-1 Firmware PROM,
removing the existing PROM and inserting the replacement PROM included in this upgrade kit. Follow the detailed steps
under each task.

To avoid damage from static discharge, be sure to observe all static precautions during this procedure.

Failure to do so could result in damage to the SMB-1 Firmware PROM and the SmartSwitch 9000
CAUTION module.
Locate the Module's SMB-1 Firmware PROM and Socket
The 9A000 SMB-1 PROM location designator is UC6.
1. Place the module (component side up) on a non-conductive flat surface. Position the module so that the module's
front (faceplate) is to the left and the module's back (backplane connector) is to the right.
2. Physically locate the SMB-1 Firmware PROM and socket. UC6 is located on the right side of the module in the
middle (it is on the same circuit board as the backplane connector).
