Front Seats Power Seats The power seat controls are located on the outboard side of the seats. • Move the seat forward or rearward by sliding the control forward or rearward. • Raise or lower the front part of the seat cushion by moving the front of the control up or down.

Massaging Lumbar If your vehicle has this feature, the switch is located on the outboard side of the front seats behind the lumbar switch. Press the switch to turn the massaging lumbar feature on. The ignition must be on. The massage cycle will run for up to 10 minutes. To stop massage, press the massaging lumbar switch again, or press the power lumbar switch.

(Heated Seat and Seatback): Press this button to turn on the heated seat and seatback. Press a button to turn on the desired feature. A light on that button will display to show which feature is on. There are three temperature settings for each feature.
Page 12 To save your positions in memory, do the following: 1. Adjust the driver’s seat, including the seatback recliner and lumbar, both outside mirrors, and the steering wheel to a comfortable position. 2. Press and hold button 1 until two beeps sound through the driver’s side front speaker to let you know that the position has been stored.
Page 13: Power Reclining Seatbacks
Easy Exit Seat The control for this feature is located on the driver’s door panel between buttons 1 and 2. With the vehicle in PARK (P), the exit position can be recalled by pressing the exit button. You will hear a single beep. The driver’s seat will move back, and if the vehicle has the power tilt wheel and telescopic steering feature, the power telescopic steering column will move up and forward.

Head Restraints Adjust the head restraint so that the top of the restraint is at the same height as the top of the occupant’s head. This position reduces the chance of a neck injury in a crash. The height of all the head restraints can be adjusted.

Center Seat Your vehicle may have a front center seat. This seat can be converted to a storage area by lowering the seatback. See Center Flex Storage Unit on page 151. Press a button to turn on the desired feature. A light on that button will display to show which feature is on. There are three temperature settings for each feature. A column of three lights next to the buttons will display which setting the feature is in: high, medium or low.

Safety Belts Safety Belts: They Are for Everyone This part of the manual tells you how to use safety belts properly. It also tells you some things you should not do with safety belts. CAUTION: Do not let anyone ride where he or she cannot wear a safety belt properly.

Page 23: How To Wear Safety Belts Properly
If I am a good driver, and I never drive far from home, why should I wear safety belts? You may be an excellent driver, but if you are in an accident — even one that is not your fault — you and your passengers can be hurt. Being a good driver does not protect you from things beyond your control, such as bad drivers.

Driver Position Lap-Shoulder Belt The driver has a lap-shoulder belt. Here is how to wear it properly. 1. Close and lock the door. 2. Adjust the seat so you can sit up straight. To see how, see “Seats” in the Index. 3.
Page 25 6. To make the lap part tight, pull up on the shoulder belt. It may be necessary to pull stitching on the safety belt through the latch plate to fully tighten the lap belt on smaller occupants. The lap part of the belt should be worn low and snug on the hips, just touching the thighs.

Page 29 What is wrong with this? The shoulder belt is worn under the arm. It should be worn over the shoulder at all times. CAUTION: You can be seriously injured if you wear the shoulder belt under your arm. In a crash, your body would move too far forward, which would increase the chance of head and neck injury.
Page 30 What is wrong with this? The belt is twisted across the body. CAUTION: You can be seriously injured by a twisted belt. In a crash, you would not have the full width of the belt to spread impact forces. If a belt is twisted, make it straight so it can work properly, or ask your dealer to ﬁx it.

To unlatch the belt, push the button on the buckle. The belt should go back out of the way. Before you close the door, be sure the belt is out of the way. If you slam the door on it, you can damage both the belt and your vehicle.

Safety Belt Use During Pregnancy Safety belts work for everyone, including pregnant women. Like all occupants, they are more likely to be seriously injured if they do not wear safety belts. A pregnant woman should wear a lap-shoulder belt, and the lap portion should be worn as low as possible, below the rounding, throughout the pregnancy.

Center Front Passenger Position Lap Belt If your vehicle has a front bench seat, someone can sit in the center position. When you sit in the center front seating position, you have a lap safety belt, which has no retractor. To make the belt longer, tilt the latch plate and pull it along the belt.

Rear Seat Passengers It is very important for rear seat passengers to buckle up! Accident statistics show that unbelted people in the rear seat are hurt more often in crashes than those who are wearing safety belts. Rear passengers who are not safety belted can be thrown out of the vehicle in a crash.
Page 35 The latch plates for the safety belts in each rear seating position vary in size. If the center rear or the left rear latch plate is inserted into the incorrect buckle, the plate will not latch properly. Be sure you are using the correct buckle and that the latch plate clicks when inserted into the buckle.
Page 36 The lap part of the belt should be worn low and snug on the hips, just touching the thighs. In a crash, this applies force to the pelvic bones. And you would be less likely to slide under the lap belt. If you slid under it, the belt would apply force at your abdomen.

Rear Safety Belt Comfort Guides Rear shoulder belt comfort guides may provide added safety belt comfort for older children who have outgrown booster seats and for small adults. When installed on a shoulder belt, the comfort guide better positions the belt away from the neck and head.
Page 38 3. Be sure that the belt is not twisted and it lies ﬂat. The elastic cord must be under the belt and the guide on top. CAUTION: A safety belt that is not properly worn may not provide the protection needed in a crash.

To remove and store the comfort guide, squeeze the belt edges together so that you can take them out of the guide. Slide the guide into its storage pocket on the top of the seatback. Safety Belt Pretensioners Your vehicle has safety belt pretensioners for the driver and right front passenger.

Child Restraints Older Children Older children who have outgrown booster seats should wear the vehicle’s safety belts. What is the proper way to wear safety belts? An older child should wear a lap-shoulder belt and get the additional restraint a shoulder belt can provide.
Page 41 CAUTION: Never do this. Here two children are wearing the same belt. The belt can not properly spread the impact forces. In a crash, the two children can be crushed together and seriously injured. A belt must be used by only one person at a time.
Page 42 CAUTION: Never do this. Here a child is sitting in a seat that has a lap-shoulder belt, but the shoulder part is behind the child. If the child wears the belt in this way, in a crash the child might slide under the belt.

Infants and Young Children Everyone in a vehicle needs protection! This includes infants and all other children. Neither the distance traveled nor the age and size of the traveler changes the need, for everyone, to use safety restraints. In fact, the law in every state in the United States and in every Canadian province says children up to some age must be restrained while in a vehicle.

Airbags plus lap-shoulder belts offer protection for adults and older children, but not for young children and infants. Neither the vehicle’s safety belt system nor its airbag system is designed for them.
Page 46 What are the different types of add-on child restraints? Add-on child restraints, which are purchased by the vehicle’s owner, are available in four basic types. Selection of a particular restraint should take into consideration not only the child’s weight, height, and age but also whether or not the restraint will be compatible with the motor vehicle in which it will be used.

CAUTION: The body structure of a young child is quite unlike that of an adult or older child, for whom the safety belts are designed. A young child’s hip bones are still so small that the vehicle’s regular safety belt may not remain low on the hip bones, as it should.

Page 54 Lower Anchors Lower anchors (A) are metal bars built into the vehicle. There are two lower anchors for each LATCH seating position that will accommodate a child restraint with lower attachments (B). Top Tether Anchor A top tether (A, C) anchors the top of the child restraint to the vehicle.
Page 55 Your child restraint may have a single tether (A) or a dual tether (C). Either will have a single attachment (B) to secure the top tether to the anchor. Some child restraints that have top tethers are designed for use with or without the top tether being attached.

The top tether anchors are located under the trim covers on the rear seatback ﬁller panel. Pull open the trim cover to access the anchors. Deployment thresholds take into account a variety of desired deployment and non-deployment events and are used to predict how severe a crash is likely to be in...

What Makes an Airbag Inﬂate? In an impact of sufficient severity, the airbag sensing system detects that the vehicle is in a crash. The sensing system triggers a release of gas from the inﬂator, which inﬂates the airbag. The inﬂator, airbag and related hardware are all part of the airbag modules.

What Will You See After an Airbag Inﬂates? After frontal airbags and seat-mounted side impact airbags inﬂate, they quickly deﬂate, so quickly that some people may not even realize an airbag inﬂated. Roof-mounted side impact airbags may still be at least partially inﬂated minutes after the vehicle comes to rest.

In many crashes severe enough to inﬂate the airbag, windshields are broken by vehicle deformation. Additional windshield breakage may also occur from the right front passenger airbag. • Airbags are designed to inﬂate only once. After an airbag inﬂates, you will need some new parts for the airbag system.

Also, it is best to avoid the use of recirculation mode except when maximum air conditioning performance is needed for a short amount of time to avoid exterior odors and fogging.

Choosing the coldest or warmest temperature setting will not cause the system to heat or cool any faster.
