Installation instructions: Please remove the module fuse from its holder du-
ring installation. The basic module is mounted at a dry location in the car where
it is not too hot (please do not mount directly adjacent to the exhaust manifold
or other particularly hot locations) and from where ultrasonic sounds can dis-
tribute themselves effectively inside the engine compartment. The plus cable
with integrated fuse holder is connected to +12 V. The earth cable is connected
to the vehicle earth or -12 V. The cable to terminal 15 should be connected to
terminal 15 of the vehicle mains. This terminal is usually on the ignition lock or
Euro socket on the car radio. After connecting the terminal 15 cable correctly,
the marten repeller is only switched on if the engine is not running (when the
car is parked). Should you have trouble finding terminal 15, please locate ano-
ther contact on the ignition lock which is switched to "Minus" when the car is
parked or does not carry any voltage and switched to "Plus" when the engine is
running. Connection of the cable to terminal 15 ensures that the marten repel-
ler is only activated when the car is parked (there is no risk of a marten entering
the car when it is moving).
Note: The marten repeller will remain constantly activated if you do not connect
the cable on the module to terminal 15.
Ultrasonic sounds spread out like light, with "shadows" occurring behind obst-
acles (no ultrasonic sounds). The loudspeaker in the module should therefore
be positioned to emit over the areas where there is a risk of gnawing occurring
(within the emission cone of approx. 150°).
The high-voltage cable is laid in the engine compartment so that the contact
plates can be mounted at the positions threatened by gnawing. The high-volta-
ge cable should not be laid near or over extremely hot engine components (e.g.
exhaust manifold), as the cable insulation could melt as a result.
The high-voltage plates are either secured with a screw in the engine compart-
ment of the car or bound with cable binders to the cable trees or hoses in the
car.
Important: the high-voltage contact plates should be mounted so that the bare
contact plates are at a distance >10 mm from other energised contacts in the
car. Moreover, the bare contact surface on the contact plates should not touch
other car parts (risk of short circuiting). Reason: shielding means that plastics
(e.g. hoses) are frequently used in cars which are made of materials that can
conduct electricity. These plastics would then short circuit the high voltage from
the contact plates relative to the earth. Where contact platelets are secured
with a metal screw, ensure that the screw head does not touch the high-voltage
metal surface on the contact plates (risk of short circuiting).
It is important to keep the contact plates dry. A water film between the vehicle
earth and the contact plates will also lead to short circuiting.
Please adhere the enclosed yellow warning sticker ("Warning! High voltage") in
an easily-visible location close to the high-voltage plates (e.g. on the air filter).
Start-up: Refit the fuse removed from its holder prior to installation. If ever-
ything has been connected correctly and the vehicle is parked (stationary), the
K&K M3500N / 06036OM / M3500N-16 / KV030
high voltage on the contact plates builds up and the little light diode on the
module starts flashing (approx. every 5 - 12 sec.). It can take up to 5 minutes
before the LED flashes after activation when the module is started for the first
time. NOTE: Ultrasound is not audible for human beings. The operativeness
is indicated by the flashing LED.
Checklist for locating errors:
1) Check: is 12 V operating voltage (direct voltage, car battery) present between
the connections +12 V and earth (-12 V)?
2) Check: is there no voltage relative to the earth on terminal 15, or is the
connection established to the earth (Minus)? The module will not function if
pulsating voltage is acting on the cable to terminal 15 (measured relative to the
vehicle earth).
3) The contact plates should be mounted freely and not connected to other
vehicle parts (risk of short circuiting).
Risks during maintenance work: High voltage can still be present on the con-
tact plates 90 s - max. 3 min. after the module has been switched off (max. 3
min.). The integrated charging capacitor needs this time to discharge. Please
wait for this period of time after switching the module off and prior to realising
maintenance work (remove the fuse).
If you do not want to wait, you can cause a short circuit after deactivation using
a brief cable connection (approx. 1 - 3 sec.) between one of the high-voltage pla-
tes and the vehicle earth. This will discharge the high-voltage charging capacitor
immediately and de-energise the plates.
The high voltage is not dangerous for persons (the current that flows is very
weak). However, the shock received can be hazardous for persons who are ea-
sily startled or suffering from an illness or ailment which could be adversely
affected by the sudden shock.
General instructions: Please clean the engine compartment thoroughly and
the spot where you regularly park your car (e.g. car port) prior to installing
the marten repeller. Martens mark their territory with scent markers and can
be very aggressive if they smell the scent of another marten within this area.
Our marten repeller with high-voltage contact plates and aggressive ultrasonic
sounds is an extremely effective deterrent against martens. However, we can-
not guarantee that martens will actually be repelled and driven away in 100%
of cases!
Correct use: Repelling of martens and other wild animals from the engine com-
partment of vehicles with electric shocks and aggressive, pulsating ultrasonic
frequencies.
Be aware of the following BEFORE FITTING:
All our devices are carefully checked during and at the end of production. Please
repeat these checks before fitting with the engine switched off: Connect the
earth cable to the negative pole of the car battery and the positive cable with
the fitted fuse to the positive pole of the car battery. The high-voltage pads
should lie on an insulating substrate (cardboard, wood). After no longer than 5
minutes, the LED fitted in the module should flash briefly at intervals of 1 - 12
seconds. This means that the marten scarer is in order and can be fitted. Cauti-
on! After switching off, the high-voltage pads may remain charged for up to one
minute. Before fitting, please first discharge them (see "Maintenance Work" in
operating instructions). When checking, please make sure that you do not touch
the high-voltage plates! If the device does not function in spite of a positive test
before fitting, then this is clearly due to a fitting error (see fitting instructions).
We provide a statutory guarantee for the device; we will not pay for costs asso-
ciated with fitting and dismantling.
To be observed in case of external start, rapid charging and welding:
For protection against excessive voltage peaks, please remove the fuse of the
marten defence.
Disposal: Do not dispose of the module in the household refuse. It should be
handed over to a special collection point for electrical waste.
