Overview

The VSR-2000 Multi Access Video and Audio Server
records and reproduces video and audio signals
supplied from various source devices with the internal
hard disks (optional) using RAID (Redundant Arrays
of Inexpensive Disks) technology.
Containing four HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) for data
and one HDD for parity (RAID-3 level), a single VSR-
2000 unit with BKSR-209Gs (9GB HDDs) mounted
achieves data recording of 36 GB (approx. 14 hours at
4 Mbps) at maximum and random access as well as
simultaneous playback of five channels at maximum.

Features of the VSR-2000

MPEG-2
The VSR-2000 supports MPEG-2 MP@ML.
Flexible input/output configuration
Inputs and outputs can be flexibly arranged by
installing optional boards in combination. The server
supports analog composite/component inputs/outputs
(RGB also selectable for outputs) and serial digital
interface (SDI) inputs/outputs.
File-by-file bit rates
Files can be recorded at different bit rates and
seamlessly reproduced, permitting effective use of the
hard disk size.
High-speed access/random access
High-speed access/random access capabilities thanks
to the hard disk array composition enable random
access and simultaneous playback of 5 channels at 8
Mbps at maximum.
Variety of inputs/outputs for versatile system
configuration
• MPEG-2 data file transfer via Ethernet
• The unit supports RS-422A and RS-232C ports for
interface with the host computer and an RS-422A
port for VTR control in encoding. In addition,
commands/statuses can be sent/received to/from an
external device via GPI (General-Purpose Interface).
Thus, the unit has control possibilities for various
applications and systems.

1) Ethernet is a trademark of Xerox Corporation.
High reliability with RAID-3
Even if one of the HDDs is malfunctioning, the RAID-
3 Array composition enables data rebuilding while
maintaining the operation. The malfunctioning HDD
can be replaced even with the power on.
Compact design
The unit (with a height of 5U) can be mounted in an
EIA-standard 19-inch rack.

Optional Boards/Units

Input/output boards
Up to five input/output boards can be mounted in the
VSR-2000 in combination of the following optional
boards:
BKSR-2020 SDI Input MPEG Encoder Board
This board accepts serial digital interface (SDI) and
SDI-embedded audio (4 channels) signals and encodes
them to MPEG-2 data.
The encoded data are recorded on the RAID.
BKSR-2021 Analog Input MPEG Encoder
Board
This board accepts analog composite or component
video and analog audio (2 channel) signals and
encodes them to MPEG-2 data.
The encoded data are recorded on the RAID.
BKSR-2030 SDI Output MPEG Decoder Board
This board decodes MPEG-2 data reproduced from the
RAID and outputs serial digital interface (SDI) signals.
The selected 2 channels of audio data decoded
simultaneously with the video are output as SDI-
embedded audio.

BKSR-2031 Analog Output MPEG Decoder
Board
This board decodes MPEG-2 data reproduced from the
RAID and outputs analog composite/component and
RGB signals.
The selected 2 channels of audio data decoded
simultaneously with the video are output as analog
audio.
