1. SAFETY RULES
TRAINING
• Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the controls and
the proper use of the equip ment;
• Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions
to use the machine. Local regulations can restrict the age of the
operator.
• Never work while people, especially children, or pets are nearby.
• Keep in mind that the operator or user is re sponsible for
accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property.
PREPARATION
• While working, always wear substantial foot wear and long
trousers. Do not operate the equipment when bare foot or wearing
open san dals.
• Thoroughly inspect the area were the equip ment is to be used
and remove all objects which can be thrown by the machine.
WARNING: Petrol is highly flammable:
- store fuel in con tain ers specifically designed for this purpose;
- refuel out doors only and do not smoke while refueling;
- add fuel before starting the engine. Never remove the cap of the
fuel tank or add petrol while the engine is running or when the en
gine is hot;
- if petrol is spilled, do not attempt to start the engine but move
the machine away from the area of spill age and avoid cre at ing any
source of ignition until petrol vapors have dis si pat ed;
- replace all fuel tank and container caps securely.
• Replace faulty silencers.
• Before using, always visually inspect to see that the tools are not
worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged elements and bolts in
sets to preserve balance.
OPERATION
• Do not operate the engine in a confined space where
dan ger ous carbon monoxide fumes collect.
• Do not change the engine governor settings or
overspeed the engine.
• Work only in daylight or in good artificial light.
• Always be sure of your footing on slopes.
• Walk, never run.
• For wheeled rotary machines, work across the slopes,
never up and down.
• Exercise extreme caution when changing di rec tion on
slopes.
• Do not work on excessively steep slopes.
• Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling the
machine towards you.
• Do not run the engine indoors; exhaust fumes are
dangerous.
• Start the engine carefully according to in struc tions
and with feet well away from the tool(s).
• Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts.
• Never pick up or carry a machine while the engine is
running.
• Stop the engine:
- whenever you leave the machine and before re
fuelling.
• Reduce the throttle setting during engine shut down
and, if the engine is provided with a shut-off valve, turn
the fuel off at the conclusion of working.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
• Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to ensure the
equipment is in safe working con di tion.
• Never store the equipment with petrol in the tank
inside a building where fumes can reach an open flame
or spark.
• Allow the engine to cool before storing in any en
closure.
• To reduce the fire hazard, keep the engine, silencer,
battery com part ment and petrol stor age area free of
vegetative material and excessive grease.
• Replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
• If the fuel tank has to be drained, this should be done
outdoors.
