7 HEDGE TRIMMERS SAFETY WARNINGS
TRAINING
Become familiar with the owner's manual be-
fore attempting to operate the equipment.
PREPARATION
a) THIS MACHINE CAN CAUSE SERIOUS
INJURIES. Read the instructions care-
fully for the correct handling, preparation,
maintenance, starting and stopping of the
machine. Become familiar with all controls
and the proper use of the machine.
b) Never allow children to use the hedge trim-
mer.
c) Beware of overhead power lines.
d) Avoid operating while people, especially
children, are nearby.
e) Dress properly! Do not wear loose clothing
or jewellery, which can be caught in mov-
ing parts. Use of sturdy gloves, protec-
tive clothing, nonskid footwear and safety
glasses is recommended.
f) If the cutting mechanism strikes any for-
eign object or the machine starts making
any unusual noise or vibration, shut off the
engine and allow the machine to complete-
ly stop. Disconnect the battery and take the
following steps:
- Inspect the machine for damage.
- Check for and tighten any loose parts or
screws.
- Have any damages parts replaced or re-
paired with parts having equivalent speci-
fications.
g) Use ear protection and eye protection.
h) In an emergency stop the hedge trimmer
by releasing the On/Off switch and remove
the battery.
OPERATION
This machine should not be used for any other
purpose than described.
a) Stop the engine before
- cleaning or when clearing a blockage,
- checking, carrying out maintenance or
working on the hedge trimmer,
- adjusting the working position of the cut-
ting device,

- leaving the hedge trimmer unattended.
b) Ensure that the machine is correctly locat-
ed in a designated working position before
starting the engine.
c) While operating the machine, always en-
sure that the operating position is safe and
secure.
d) Do not operate the hedge trimmer with a
damaged or excessively worn cutting de-
vice.
e) Always ensure that all handles and guards
are fitted when using the machine. Never
attempt to use an incomplete machine or
one fitted with an unauthorised modifica-
tion.
f) Always use two hands to operate a ma-
chine with two handles.
g) To reduce fire hazards, keep the engine
and silencer free of debris, leaves and ex-
cessive lubricant.
h) Always be aware of your surroundings and
stay alert for possible hazards of which you
may not be aware due to the noise of the
machine.
i) Do not use the tool with a defective or worn
out cutting mechanism.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
a) When the machine is stopped for servicing,
inspection or storage, shut off the power
source, disconnect the battery and make
sure all moving parts have come to a stop.
Allow the machine to cool before making
any inspections, adjustments, etc.
b) Always allow the machine to cool down be-
fore storing.
c) When not in use store the machine out of
the reach of children.
d) Use only manufacturers recommended re-
placement parts and accessories.
e) When transporting or storing the machine,
always fit the cutting device transport
guard.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
a) Keep all parts of the body away from the
cutter blade. Do not remove cut material
or hold material to be cut when blades are
moving. Make sure the switch is off when
clearing jammed material. A moment of
inattention while operating the hedge trim-
mer may result in serious personal injury.
b) Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with
the cutter blade stopped. When transport-
ing or storing the hedge trimmer always fit
the cutting device cover. Proper handling
of the hedge trimmer will reduce possible
personal injury from the cutter blades.
c) Hold the power tool by insulated gripping
surfaces only, because the cutter blade
may contact hidden wiring. Cutter blades
contacting a "live" wire may make exposed
metal parts of the power tool "live" and
could give the operator an electric shock.
d) This unit is not designed to be used by per-
sons (including children) who have limited
physical, sensory or mental abilities or who
have inadequate experience and/or knowl-
edge of the unit, unless they are supervised
by a person responsible for their safety or
they have been instructed by the person
how to use the unit. Children should be
supervised to ensure that they do not play
with the unit.
e) Switch the unit off and remove the battery
under the following conditions:
– if the unit is left unattended;
– before checking, cleaning or performing
other work on the unit;
– if the unit starts vibrating excessively.
f) While cutting, ensure that there are no per-
sons (particularly children) or animals in
the working area. Ensure that children do
not play with the unit.
g) Before switching on the hedge trimmer, en-
sure that the working area is free of stones
and pieces of wire. Look out for them while
cutting and search the hedge for concealed
objects, such as wire fences.
h) Use the unit only in daylight or in good ar-
tificial lighting.
i) Use the unit in dry conditions only. Protect
it from rain and moisture.
j) Ensure that the cutter does not touch the
ground or other objects.
k) Wait until the electric power tool has come
to a standstill before putting it down.
l) When interrupting work, never leave the
unit unattended and keep it in a safe place.
m) Always switch the hedge trimmer off be-
fore transporting it to other workplaces.
n) Never grasp the blade of the hedge trim-
mer.
o) Ensure that all guards and handles are fit-
ted before using the unit. Never attempt to
switch on an incompletely assembled unit
or a unit which has unauthorised modifica-
tions.
p) Operate the unit only in the technical condi-
tion stipulated and delivered by the manu-
facturer. Unauthorised changes to the unit
exclude liability of the manufacturer for any
resulting damage and/or injury.
q) Spare parts must conform with the re-
quirements specified by the manufacturer.
Therefore use original spare parts only or
spare parts authorised by the manufac-
turer. When replacing parts, please follow
the supplied installation instructions and
remove the battery beforehand.
r) Have repairs carried out exclusively by a
qualified technician or a service centre.
8 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR
BATTERY
Never use a damaged battery.

from continuous exposure to sun-
light, fire, water and humidity. There
is a risk of explosion.
In case of damage and improper

use of the battery, vapours may be
emitted. Ventilate the area and seek
medical help in case of complaints.
The vapours can irritate the respira-
tory system.
Under abusive conditions, liquid

may be ejected from the battery;
avoid contact. If contact acciden-
tally occurs, flush with water. If liq-
uid contacts eyes, additionally seek
