10.2.6 Checking the performance of the pump set
During periodic verifications and checks, the flow rate is measured
by a flowmeter with direct reading.
The Grundfos dedicated kit (optional) includes a shut-off
valve, a flowmeter and a control valve. The configuration and
measurement accuracy of the flowmeter correspond to
the requirements of the EN 12845 standard.
Make sure that there are no air pockets in the flowmeter and there
are no impurities in the measurement circuit. If necessary, use the
bleeder screw on the top of the instrument. Note that the presence
of air pockets in the instrument considerably reduces the
measurement accuracy.
To check the performance of the pump set, perform the following
sequence of operations:
1. Set the main switch of the jockey pump to position 0.
2. Close the gate valves on the outlet connection to the firefighting
system.
3. Set the operating mode selector of the duty pumps to "TEST".
4. Open the gate valve of the flow rate test circuit.
5. Partially open the gate valve located downstream of the
flowmeter on the test circuit in order to allow the measurement
of the flow rate.
6. Check the outlet pressure on the manometer.
7. Check the pressure on the vacuum pressure gauge.
The difference between the outlet pressure and the inlet pressure is
the total head of the pump.

Periodically check the tightness of the bolts
which could be loose due to the vibrations generated
by the operation of the pump set.
11. Storage
The pump set must be stored in a frost-free
room protected from direct exposure to the environment.
Standard factory packaging is suitable for protection during
shipment and during covered storage at the jobsite for a short
period between installation and start-up.
Prevent water, dust, dirty or small animals etc. from entering the
pump. Always cover all openings until the pipes are connected.
