Pace
This short program is intended to help new wand users surmount an obstacle many encounter when learning to read bar code—
scanning too slowly.
First remove the wand from the HP-41C, set program mode, and key in the following:
PACE
g LBL ALPHA ALPHA
01
g LBL
PSE
XEQ ALPHA ALPHA
TONE
XEQ ALPHA ALPHA
01
g GTO
Then take the HP-41C out of program mode and press
reading anything into the calculator, sweep the wand across the rows using the programmed tone to pace yourself. The rate at which
you must move the wand to scan one row per tone is an indication of the rate required to successfully read bar code—much slower
and the wand won't process the bar code.
Turn off the calculator and plug the wand into an empty port. Now that you have a feeling for how fast to scan bar code, try it!
