8. If you are unsure as to the source of the problem, you may want to take your HP-41C and the HP 82153A Wand to your nearest
authorized HP retail dealer prior to sending the unit in for service. By temporarily exchanging the wand or calculator and
operating the system, you and your dealer may be able to determine which device is not functioning properly. Only the device
that has been determined to be malfunction should be sent to HP for service. If you and the dealer are unable to determine the
source of the malfunction, send both the HP-41C and the HP 82153A Wand to the HP for service. Refer to Service,
Note:
The wand reads bar code using a photosensor to detect light reflected from the bar code. Because of the low intensity of
the reflected light signal, highly sensitive circuitry has been built into the wand. Due to this sensitivity, the wand can be
affected by nearby strong electrical or magnetic fields (such as those caused by power cords, electric machinery, or electric
power lines). Any magnetic or electrical interference occurring in the wand will result in ''no read'' or ''read error'' conditions.
Using a recharger in the HP-41C system while operating the wand can cause interference conditions. If there is recharger
interference, it can sometimes be reduced by reversing the recharger plug in its socket. Read problems due to interference can
also be reduced by ensuring that you do not grasp the wand near the tip, where the wand's sensitive circuitry is located, and by
scanning the bar code at a different angle.
Limited One-Year Warranty
Wat Will We Do
The HP 82153A Wand is warranted by Hewlett-Packard against defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of
original purchase. The wand is designed and warranted to read only bar code that is within Hewlett-Packard's specifications for HP

automatically transferred to the new owner and remains in effect for the original one-year period. During the warranty period, we will
repair or, at our option, replace at no charge a product that proves to be defective, provided you return the product, shipping prepaid,
to a Hewlett-Packard repair center.
