Hold the paint spray gun body (#12) over the waste solvent container with
the air cap in a downward position. Spray solvent into the fluid connector
and let the waste solvent drain out of the gun body. Spray more solvent
into the fluid connector while holding the gun body in place and let drain.
a.
A water-based solvent may corrode the paint spray gun's internal
mechanism. Use a fast drying solvent such as acetone to flush out the
mechanism immediately after using a water-based solvent.
10. Remove the air cap and spray with solvent. Scrub with a wire brush to
remove paint. Use a bottle brush to clean out the air cap opening. Rinse
with solvent.
11. Remove the nozzle (#1) with a wrench, taking care not to scratch or
damage the nozzle. Use a wire brush and solvent to remove paint from the
exterior. Take care not to damage the nozzle holes.
12. Clean paint residue in the nozzle holes with a wooden toothpick to avoid
damaging the nozzle. Use plenty of solvent to soften or remove the paint
residue and poke a wooden toothpick into the holes to clear them. Rinse
and set aside to dry.
a.
Paint residue that cannot be removed with a wooden toothpick can be
removed with a metal pick. Take extreme care as the metal picks may
scratch the nozzle hole. A scratch can ruin a nozzle.
13. Spray solvent onto the gun body and scrub with a wire brush and the bottle
brushes to remove paint. Rinse with solvent and set aside until dry.
REASSEMBLY
14. Screw the nozzle into place and carefully tighten with a wrench.
15. Place the air cap back into place and tighten the air cap ring (#3).
16. Apply petroleum jelly to main body of the needle set (#16) before
sliding it back into the gun. Do not apply the jelly to the needle point.
Insert the spring and gasket into the gun body, then screw the fluid
adjustment knob into place. Squeeze the trigger several times to spread
the petroleum jelly. Tighten the screw (#18A) completely to prevent
paint from flowing the next time the cup is filled.
17. Screw the pattern adjustment valve set (#14 to 15A) back into place.
18. Reattach the paint cup and lid, then the pressure regulator.
