Detaching the Front Panel Press the PWR (Power) button to turn off the power. Press the Release ( ) button at lower left corner until the front panel pops out. Grasp the left side of the front panel and pull it out. Notes: The front panel may become hot under normal usage (especially...
Attaching the Front Panel 1. First, insert the right side of the front panel into the main unit. Align the 2 small holes on the front panel with the 2 projections on the main unit. 2. Push the left side of the front panel until it locks firmly into the main unit.
Initial System Start-Up Immediately after installing or applying power to the unit, it should be initial- ized. To do this, first, remove the detachable front panel. Behind the front panel, to the right of the connector, there is a small hole. Using a pencil or other pointed object, press the red reset button mounted behind this hole to complete the initialization procedure.
Turning Power On and Off Press the PWR (Power) button to turn on the unit. Note: The unit can be turned on by pressing any other button except the eject c and DISP/TITLE buttons. The volume level gradually increases to the previous level you were listening to before the unit was turned off.
Non Fading Pre-Out (N.F.P.) On and Off Press and hold the eject (c) button for at least 3 seconds. With each press, N.F.P. is toggled On or Off. N.F.P. ON: In this position, the Front Pre- Output will not be affected by the fader.
Adjusting Volume/Bass/Treble/ Balance (Between Left and Right)/Fader (Between Front and Rear) Press the MODE (Audio Control) knob repeatedly to choose the desired mode. Each press changes the modes as follows: Notes: If the MODE (Audio Control) knob is not rotated within 5 seconds after selecting the BASS, TREBLE, BALANCE, or FADER mode, the unit automatically...
Audio Mute Function Activating this function will instantly lower the volume level by 20 dB. Press the MUTE button to activate the MUTE mode. The audio level will decrease by about 20 dB. Pressing the MUTE button again will bring the audio back to its previous level.
Selecting BBE Mode (CDA-D855 only) The BBE (Barcus Berry Electronics) processor installed in this unit is de- signed to correct the phase distortion inherent in most loudspeaker designs. Ensuring the phase integrity of the signal driving the speakers improves the accurate reproduction of the sound.
Turning Loudness On/ Off (CDA-D852 only) Loudness introduces a special low- and high-frequency emphasis at low listening levels to compensate for the ear’s decreased sensitivity to bass and treble sound. Press and hold the MODE (Audio Control) button for at least 2 seconds to activate or deactivate the loudness mode.
Sound (Beep) Guide Function This function will give audible feedback with varying tones depending upon the button pressed. Press and hold the INTLZ button for more than 3 seconds. Press the Preset 1 button to toggle the mode between BEEP ON and BEEP OFF. Note: The initial setting at the factory is BEEP ON.
Turning Mute Mode On/Off If a device having the interrupt feature is connected, audio will be automatically muted whenever the interrupt signal is received from the device. This function can be turned ON or OFF from the head unit by following procedure below. Press and hold the INTLZ button for at least 3 seconds.
Turning Display (Spectrum Analyzer) On or OFF The spectrum analyzer portion on the display panel can be turned off. Press the INTLZ button for at least 3 seconds. Press the Preset 3 button to toggle between DISP ON and DISP OFF. Note: The initial setting at the factory is "DISP ON."...
Changing Lighting Color Press the INTLZ button for at least 3 seconds. Press the Preset 4 button to change the lighting color between AMBER OFF (green) and AMBER ON (amber). Note: The initial setting at the factory is "AMBER OFF". Press the INTLZ button to set the lighting color.
Dimmer Control With the head lights of the vehicle ON, setting the illiumination control of the vehicle to ON decreases the illumination brightiness of the unit. If the illumination is too bright during the night, set the DIM (Dimmer) to AUTO. Press and hold the INTLZ button for more than 3 seconds.

Blackout Mode On and Off (CDA-D855 only) When the Blackout mode is turned on, the CFL display will turn off to reduce power consumption. This additional power enhances the sound quality. Press and hold the BLACK OUT button for at least 2 seconds to start the blackout mode.
Setting Time Press and hold the CLK (Clock) button for at least 3 seconds while the time is displayed until the time indication blinks. Rotate the MODE (Audio Control) knob to adjust the hours while the time indication is blinking. When the hours has been adjusted, press the MODE (Audio Control) knob.
Manual Tuning Press the SOURCE button until a radio frequency appears in the display. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Each press changes the band: Press the TUNE button repeatedly until "DX SEEK" and "SEEK" disappear from the display.
Automatic Seek Tuning Accord par recherche Press the SOURCE button until a radio frequency appears in the display. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Each press changes the band: Press the TUNE button to illuminate the DX and SEEK indicators in the display.
Manual Storing of Station Presets Select the radio band and tune in a desired radio station you wish to store in the preset memory. Press and hold any one of the preset buttons (1 through 6) for at least 2 seconds until the station frequency on the display blinks.
Automatic Memory of Station Presets Press the SOURCE button to select the radio mode. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Press and hold the A. ME button for at least 2 seconds. The frequency on the display continues to change while the automatic memory is in progress.
Storing into Direct Access Preset (D.A.P.) Band A combination of radio stations in any band (up to 6 stations) can be manually preset into the D.A.P. band. Press the "F" button to illuminate the "FUNC" (Function) indicator. Press the D.A.P. button until the D.A.P. indicator appears.

Press the "F" button to activate the normal mode. The "FUNC" indicator will turn off. Note: Setting should be performed within 5 seconds after the "F" button is pressed. The unit will automatically return to the normal mode 5 seconds after pressing the "F" button.
Tuning to Preset Stations Press the SOURCE button to select the radio mode. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired band is displayed. To select the D.A.P. band, press the D.A.P. button until the D.A.P. indicator appears in the display. (See page 35.) Press the station preset button that has your desired radio station in memory.
Mono/Stereo Switching Press the "F" button to illuminate the "FUNC" (Function) indicator. "ST" indicator appears when a stereo FM station is tuned in. Press the MONO button to switch from stereo to monaural FM reception. This will help in reducing the noise of weak FM Stereo broadcasts.

Titling Stations Tune in a station to be titled. Press the TITLE button twice (once if you are already in the Clock Priority mode) to select the preset station titling mode. "--------" will flash in the display. Press and hold the TITLE button for at least 3 seconds.

Repeat the steps 4 and 5 above to complete the titling. All 8 character positions should be filled. Use spaces where charac- ters are not needed (for example at the end of a 5 character title, use 3 spaces to complete the title).
Searching for Titled Stations (Title Search Menu) Press and hold the T.S.M. button for at least 2 seconds while the station title is displayed. The titled station in memory blinks in the display. Press the g DN or UP f button to select the desired station title.
Inserting/Ejecting Disc Insert a CD half way into the slot with the label side facing up. The player automati- cally draws the disc into the disc compart- ment. The Disc indicator in the display appears to show that a disc is loaded. Note: Three-inch (8cm) CD's can be used.
Normal Play and Pause Lecture normale et Insert a CD. The CD player begins playback from the first track on the disc. The display shows the track number and elapsed time of the track being played. When the last track is played back the player returns to the first track and begins playback from that point.
Music Sensor (Skip) Momentarily press the DN g button once during CD play to return to the beginning of the current track. If you wish to access a track further back, repeatedly press until you reach the desired track. Press the f UP button once to advance to the beginning of the next track.
Repeat Play Press the RPT button to play back repeatedly the track being played. The REPEAT indicator appears and the track will be played repeatedly. REPEAT REPEAT ALL Press the RPT button again and select OFF to deactivate the repeat play. Note: If a CD Shuttle is connected and the REPEAT ALL mode is selected, the unit repeatedly plays back all tracks...
M.I.X. (Random Play) Press the M.I.X. button in the play or pause mode. The M.I.X. indicator will illuminate and the tracks on the disc will be played back in a random sequence. After all the tracks on the disc have been played back once, the player will begin a new random sequence play until the M.I.X.

Searching for Titled Discs You can search for CDs with their titles if they are titled. (To title CDs, refer to "Titling Discs" on pages 51 and 52.) Press and hold the T.S.M. button for at least 2 seconds while a CD title is dis- played.
Multi-Changer Selection Alpine's Ai-NET system will support up to 6 CD Shuttles. When operating two or more changers, the KCA-400C (Multi- Changer Switching device) must be used. If you use 1 Switching device, you can connect up to 4 CD Shuttles. If you use 2 Switching devices, you can connect up to 6 CD Shuttles.

Battery Replacement Applicable battery: Use two "AAA" sized dry batteries or equivalent. Opening the battery cover Slide out the battery cover while firmly pressing outward.
